I just don't know that you can really gage each confrence this way. It's a little deceiving. I still think the SEC is as good as it gets. Tenn fumbles on their ten or they probably win. Arkansas loses in a squeaker to a very good #6 Wisconsin team. Other than that the SEC has been solid.

Wake Forest and Tech are iffy at best...Kentucky handled the team that beat them both by a combined 58-24...anyways, when those are the two best teams your conference plays in bowls, you start out with a weak argument...

It has more to do with the terrible bowl tie-ins they have as a conference. The Gator Bowl is losing its luster and I wonder if the Chick-Fil-A will overtake it someday based on the money that they give to the school endowments and so forth. The game in Atlanta sells out and the Gator has been well short the last few years. Take the International bowl for example. Next year you will need a passport to go watch your team play and this year you need a certified birth certificate. Plus the timing of that bowl is just silly.
January 2, 200719 yr I think the SEC looks pretty good. They had a couple of losses to pretty good Big Ten teams by slim margins. If you don't think the Big East improved their stock thus far you are just ignoring facts. BE likely goes undefeated, thats impressive no matter what. But I'd say the most impressive is the WAC with Boise's win over OU. No one gave them a chance but they dominated early, fell back, and then came back to win against all odds. What a game. The best so far.

If you're after a slate of bowl opponents that you can go undefeated against, they certainly have it. If even matchups against big-name schools (the kind of matchups that earn instant respect), they didn't get that this year.

One could make the case that the SEC has a weak argument because the top team it has actually beaten is #15 Virginia Tech. When all is said and done, I predict the top-ranked team beaten by the SEC in a bowl game will be #11 Notre Dame (which is not ranked much higher than Wake Forest).

They are set where the house always comes out ahead.
