The Russell guys make it painful to listen to a ball game. I usually try to pick up red devil games on another station. The play by play from those two isnt that bad, its just hard to follow whats going on when everyone on the court has a couple of nicknames. From what ive been able to pick up so far " some relation " is Vanhoose and "A-rob" is Robinson. I think they also call someone "ice" that might be gill.

I disagree.I think the guy that does the play by play has improved tremendously.The color man does a very good job.He knows the Russell team very well and unlike many announcers has watched many of the opposition teams and players.Many times I have heard him describe tendencies of players and teams that are very accurate.He seems to be knowledgeable about teams not only in the 16th region but statewide as well.

"Some relation passes to big stack who gives the ball to freeze" are just some of what I have heard. As an outsider looking in I had no clue who was on the floor. Maybe it is ok with the home fans but remember not everyone that listens is familiar with the kids and their nicknames. A high school kid deserves to hear his real name mentioned on the radio, not many high school kids get that opportunity.

Is this the same Jim Forrest who used to do Morehead and Rowan Co. games? If so, he's excellent.

Dan Manley of WMST- Mt. Sterling is good (as long as Montgomery Co. is not playing. Can be kind of a homer when the Indians are playing).

Yes. It is my understanding that he is now working for WLGC. He called several of the high school football game this past seasn and was excellent their as well.

I really don't have a problem with an announcer being a homer as long as it is done in good taste and doesn't take anything away from the other teams players.

I think the Russell broadcast team beats the Raceland crew all too pieces!:laugh: :fire:

In NKY, the CovCath internet radio guys do a good job! They paint a good picure of the game, seem to have some fun, and do a good job of getting the fans involved via their e-mails!! Mustang, the founder of internet broadcasts up here, does a great job as well. Very good play-by-play, insightful, and a great knowledge of the game and it's history!! Danny Weddle from Maysville does a good job too.

No, it wasnt the first time, and surely not the last. However, I havent heard one good thing about the Russell radio guys on this thread except for what you have been saying. Maybe I'm not the only one who thinks its confusing.

I am sure the kids like their nicknames. So do I. It should make no difference who the listener is. Their job is to broadcast the game so (any) listener gets a feel for what is taking place and what player is performing. With the nicknames the listener whether casual or not does not get the whole picture.

Since when does one have to be a Russell fan to listen to a game on the radio? The game at hand should be for everyone to hear and enjoy.

When Raceland games are broadcast, Jim Forrest is the voice in the box and I guarantee the Russell duo couldn't carry his....well, you know the rest....:lol:

1. Raceland basketball to my knowledge does not have a radio crew. Even with that it still beats the guys that call Russell's games.:sssh: :lol:2. I believe cville was not meaning "just a Raceland listener", anyone that wants to listen to a Russell game would have no idea what is going on. 3. If the kids like to hear their nicknames over the radio broadcast I believe that I would suggest that they concentrate on playing the game instead of listening to the radio :sssh: 4. Imo Russell has too good of a basketball program, coaches and players to have the radio broadcast make a joke out of their games. JMO

Another vote for Danny Weddle at WFTM. Not a ranting homer, no reliance on cutesy nicknames for the home fans' amusement. Just a solid professional who knows the game he's broadcasting and is always prepared. Also does a good job during the post-game interviews in terms of asking cogent questions and making intelligent observations.
