Great job. Comes to 309-193-6 all-time

I will never understand why they took the Robert Allen Yankey award out of the case and stuck it "goodness knows where". I asked about it one day and they acted as if I was talking about something they had never heard of. Which they probably hadn't. I explained what it was and they just said that they had no idea where it was. I guess you would have had to have lived those years to understand why he was so important to this school. If they would only bring it back and each year explain to the team what he was all about, perhaps ---- well just perhaps.

I could be wrong on this, but it is my understanding that coach Smith did away with all individual awards. That Boyle is a team, and only team awards will be accepted. No MVP, Most tackles, 110%, or any other awards are given at the end of each season. Again this is what I have herd what happened to the 110% Robert Allen Yankey Award, and the display in the school lobby.

1968 John Buchanan 9-1-1

1969 John Buchanan 5-6

Buchanan became head coach in 1969, and his record that year was 9-1-1. 68 was Greer, and they were 0-10.

Thanks

304-197-6

I might be wrong but I think that the '66 team was not 0-10. The reason I say this is because '65 was the first year Boyle and Danville played and it was a 0-0 tie.

The next year (which would have been '66) Boyle beat Danville 19-0 with all the points being scored by John Young. (TD's and EP)

I know that Boyle only had the 0-10 fiascos twice in back to back years. That era was the darkest, second only to the Burke-Griggs run of four years. Now I could be guessing Rebel but the 6-2-2 and 7-1-2 teams might very well have been the '65 and '66 squads. I remember someone having trouble finding out what the '64 record was.

I had forgotten about Fraley being the coach of the 9-0 team. That one had Morris Allen Stewart among others. If memory serves the '65 and '66 teams sported Ed Sleet, Jay Reynolds, Johnny Harmon and John Young. If someone knows them they could ask. Your dad Rebel might even remember.

AllTexan, I know we keep sending you bits and pieces but if we keep it up here long enough someone might be able to solve the mystery.

Thanks Hatz. No need for me to update the results further until we get confirmation on those years in question.

It would be nice to know the scores of each and every game. Is there a website we can go to,to get this kind of infor?

I haven't seen one. Not too many schools have results broken down that far over the long haul.

Hatz I think that you are right instead of skipping a year I went to direct to 1964 from 1963 and it threw me off a year. Their is no record of 1964.

I think that this should be up to date.

You are correct Rebel - Smith did do away with individual awards. I really wasn't talking about them giving away that award again, I was saying that I think it still should be on display and it isn't. I looked for it and that award is no where in the display - or at least it wasn't the last time I looked. I asked the AD and he said that he wasn't sure where it was, perhaps in the back hall, perhaps put away. Anyway, it isn't there and I really think it should be on display somewhere.

If memory serves the '65 and '66 teams sported Ed Sleet, Jay Reynolds, Johnny Harmon and John Young. If someone knows them they could ask. Your dad Rebel might even remember.

Hatz I spent the weekend with Jay Reynolds in Indinapolis, and ask him about the 1964 season and why there is no record of it. He told me that he has no clue as to why there is no record of that season. Jay said he got hurt in that year, and that he thought Boyle's record was somewhere around .500 with a tie. He said they got blown out by Glasgow pretty bad that season. Jay aslo told me that he thought Morris Allen Stewart would know, that he thinks 64 was his Sr. year.

What puzzles me about all this is that Stewart was in the Boyle School System as a teacher/Basketball Coach and I can't belive that he could not have filled in that lost season? Why is it that so many people have forgotten what happened in 1964?

According to my records, the Rebels went 5-3-1 in 1964.

Boyle County 20 Greensburg 0
Boyle County 12 Oldham County 13
Boyle County 25 Glasgow 7
Boyle County 25 Mercer County 0
Boyle County 50 Metcalfe County 0
Boyle County 68 Henry County 7
Boyle County 0 Stanford 20
Boyle County 6 Madison Central 6
Boyle County 6 Shelby County 12

Please note that this is unofficial, but I pulled it out of an old yearbook. I saw the earlier post that stated that the Glasgow game was a loss, so I will recheck my source to see if I may have gotten it reversed. Also, I saw that the Coach in 1964 was someone named Willard Davis, although I cannot confirm this.
