Class A tournament officials

Has there ever been a first year official picked to work this tournament? I hear there is one this year and it has upset many of his fellow officials!

They are picked by the people who run the tournament a believe.

So we’re begging for officials, saying “instead of complaining, come do it,” then a young official joins up and gets a tournament gig, then the same officials complain?

Unless something has changed, they're assigned by the KHSAA.

The KHSAA doesn’t assign officials for any regular season games.

I believe each region uses an assigner for regular season.  Often times, multiple regions will use the same assigner.  For example, regions 6 & 7 probably use the same assigner for the Louisville metro area.  Each team sends in their home schedule to the assigner & the assigner takes care of scheduling officials & letting the teams know who the officials are for their upcoming games.  The teams stay in contact with the assigner to let them know of game cancellations or additions throughout the year.  The school then takes care of paying the officials after each game.  The assigner helps prevent double booking, ensuring all teams get their necessary officials & aren’t left scrambling last second to secure officials.  They essentially serve as a broker.

Yes, and each assigner works for the khsaa, or that is my understanding.

For the All A tournament coaches submit who they would like to have as officials. They submit 3 names. From the list of names that are submitted to the assignor, names are submitted to the All A organizers. The All A organizers select the officials. They usually take the name that the assignor submits. The KHSAA has no input in the selection of officials for the All A tournament since it's not a recognized KHSAA event.
