Congratulations to Dane Key who was named the Paul Hornung winner this morning by the Louisville Quarterback Club as Kentucky’s best player. This is a great honor and also is the 2nd straight Bronco player to win the award (Jager Burton 2020).

Just don't see this, I know he is a great prospect and all, but just have not seen the great plays out of him.. Looked up the stats.

12 games- 804 yds receiving, 6 yds rushing, 13 tackles, 8 tds.

Hard to disagree. I understand he is a great player, but his stats just don't stack up to some other players this year.

Congrats!

Congrats to Key. It might be hard to argue against him being the top recruit or talent in the state, but he is far from the most impactful player.

Key doesn't make the top 30 players in 5A for scoring or top 5 for receiving. Chandler Godby from Pulaski had 75 receptions for 1061 yards. Zach Schofner from Bullitt Central had 39 Rushing Touchdowns on 2184 yards and 1 Rec TD. I don't understand how either of those phenomenal performances wouldn't put them in the discussion.

Again, I'm not discounting how talented Key is. Probably most coaches would pick him as the best talent in the state. I don't think that the Hornung award is necessarily just based on stats though or how valuable a player might be to the team.

Ahh yes... the "Who is the most heralded college recruit in the State award."

Congrats are in order to Key, and no doubt he is one of the State's best players, but this award traditionally is kind of mailed in by the Louisville Quarterback Club.

Congrats Dane!

Agreed.  Cole Lanter was a better player.

Did he start defense for Douglas?

Dane was on our All BluegrassPreps.com team last year and I would expect him to make it again this year.

Congratulations, Dane! Terrific player from an elite program who will be a star at the next level!
