Ok I want to put a end to all of this. Do you all realize that St. Francis only has 6 players. Did you all know that their best player who is their leading scorer who averages double figures each game fouled out in the 2ND QUARTER! Did you all know that one of Ludlows players Kassi Wofford scored her 1000th point in the 1st quarter and didn't play the rest of the game, or that the rest of the starter were out for the rest of the game early in the 2nd quarter. So as you see Ludlow did everything they could not to run the score up, and that actually the score could have been alot worse. There is not much you can do when the other team is just not that good and only has 6 players..

 

So before people go saying stuff like this score is very interesting, or talking about how before this game St.Francis lowest score was only 21 before this game. So that must mean Ludlow was playing hard defense on them all game. You might want to actually really know the facts before saying anything about it...

 

Coach Stamm is a very classy guy, and wouldn't run up the score on anyone like some coaches would do. So its a shame that some people apparently think that maybe Ludlow ran the score up, when they really dont know any of the facts about the game...

Game scores speak for themselves. These scores were taken from the KHSAA site. It also looks like St. Francis is a team that is playing as many games(19 already including two Christmas break tournaments) as they can schedule so thru experience they can improve. I doubt that St. Francis wants any of their opponents to insult them by not playing real basketball. It appears that they want experience and to improve. Good luck ladies, I wish you all the best.

I was actually lucky enough to catch the second half of this game as well. I think they were doing the opposite of trying to run it up. Futurecoach saw it close to the same way I did. I have no affiliation to the Ludlow program and I can tell you that at one point it looked like the girls were getting carried away w/ not taking shots, to the point that it was more emabarassing that they weren't taking very open easy shots and the head coach had to tell the players that they still had to play. I think they could have beat them 85-5 if they wanted to.

Gotcha. I wasn't questioning the score run-up. I understand that. My only question was how could they have only scored 5 points. Seemed incredible to me, especially when people are saying that Ludlow took it easy on them. I know St. Francis is really bad, but why enter a tournament when you're that bad?

 

BTW, I have no problem with a coach letting his/her team go full bore the whole game. Substitute and let your bench warmers go at it. Ludlow had 13 players with points.

I believe St. Francis may have been missing some players. They tried to exit the tournament right before Christmas due to injury and some players not available to go but it was too late to get another team and they contractually had to play. However, they seem to have more girls later in the week and improved. I also know that they had one very good athlete who had not played Basketball before and was a Junior. She scored most of their points and they seemed to have a good time.

 

Overall, they were a very nice group and they played hard. They just seemed a little inexperienced for the other teams.

I have been on both sides of the issue and it is more or at least equal to being up huge and it seeming you are running the score up when you are trying to do all in your power to prevent that as it is to be down huge and nothing you can do to change it.

 

We won a game 90something to 20 something and for the whole 2nd half we played a 2-3 zone and our wing person would steal the past to the wing and dribble for a layup. I didn't want to tell this young person to not to play defense but 6 straight plays the point guard dribbles to the top of the key, stops and passes to the same wing. 6 straight steals and layups by what was 1 of my bottom five. I felt horrible but didn't know what to do to help prevent the situation.

I thought that's waht you were getting at but from what I saw they sat in a soft zone and let them shoot open shots. As was stated earlier their leading scorer fouled out in the first half. From what I saw they honestly couldn't have done anything other than completely get out of the way for the score to be different.

What I have seen done in that situation is tell your team no fastbreaks. Even on breakaways. If a steal and breakaway occur instead of driving to the basket. circle the ball up top and work on executing your offense. Now if the opposing team can,t stop your half court offense then so be it, but at least some clock will run.

I understand that but doesn't that embarrass the other team just as much. I mean you steal the ball 6 straight times and there is NO ONE between you and the basket and you stand dribbling the basketball while EVERYONE passes you up. I have wondered if that is not just as embarrassing as going on and shooting the layup.
