Dies at the age of 93.

No link yet, but I'm sure there will be one later on.

ESPN just did a big biography over him... Like a 20 minute piece... I guess they've had it prepared for a while expecting this. He was a Michigan letterman and had his number retired... Football.

Too sad. I think President Ford was a really good and decent man. I think he has lived an honorable and respected life.

Too sad. He was a good and decent public servant. Prayers go out to his family...

I don't want to make fun of the situation with President Ford, but does anyone remember Dana Carvey on SBNL playing Tom Brokaw wanting to take a long vacation so he 'pre-records' the news with every possible thing that might happen why he was off. The main thrust of the joke was that he recorded about 101 different variations of how Gerald Ford might possibly die, eaten by lions, plane crash, etc...

From a personal perspective, Gerald Ford was an Eagle Scout, an offensive lineman, and a gentleman. Those things should just about sum it up.

From a professional perspective, he was responsible for the appointment of John Paul Stevens to the Supreme Court, and that just about sums it up, too.

As with the rest of America, I offer condolences to Betty and their children. I think it will be interesting to watch how this man's place in American history unfolds.

I think that will be one of the most interesting things as all the talking heads handle the events that will take place later in the week. I remember how much President Regean was bashed on a daily basis while he was President and how the same commentators were glowing about his life at the funeral. Not that they would dare say anything bad at a time like that, but where was the love when he was in office?

Personally, I thought Ford did the best he could as President, considering the situation he inherited. I don't think he was a great President, but I don't think he was a bust, either. I think history will treat him fairly kindly.

As for the question "where was the love", no President gets much love while they are in office. The criticism goes with any position of authority (i.e. principal at school, coach, President, etc.). It isn't always warranted, but it is inherent with the position.

Sad to hear. I think he was a very good man not prepared for the postion he was put into. He sure did lead an interesting life though, didn't he?

He sure did. Product of divorced natural parents, changed his name at a young age, Eagle Scout, scholarship football player at Michigan, Yale law school grad, gunner aboard the USS Monterrey, decorated vet with a lot of combat action, congressman, President, married to a woman who was a severe alcoholic and battled breast cancer, etc. etc. etc.

RIP..to a great American...
