DevilMayCare Posted October 9, 2021 Posted October 9, 2021 Final. Pikeville reasserts itself as the heavy favorite in 1A. This was never a game. The Panthers dictated every aspect. Blake Birchfield went for 200+ on the ground. 1

The problem is the gap between number 1 (Pikeville) and 2-3 (Raceland/Russellville) is wide and the gap between the rest of the class is even wider. 1

I agree 100% but with teenagers you never can tell I thought Pikeville was clearly the best team in Class A last year and they lost to a poor Hazard team in the playoffs. So if you ask me right now who was going to win 1A I would go with Pikeville but I wouldn’t be shocked if they didn’t win it. 2
InsideTrap Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Cousin got after them on the ground this game. He’s one of the best backs in the state and in Pikeville history, and they’ve had a lot of good ones.

The LCA game was great exposure for him to a broader audience outside the mountains. When I watch Pikeville play, I can't help but wonder if anyone in 1A could handle them if they went under center full time or just ran power 80% of their snaps. Not that they should, because McNamee and Lockhart are studs too. But watching Birchfield run behind that offensive line gives you the impression that they could get away with it and still roll to state.
