Beechwood travels to Independence with a 3-0 record and has yet to be scored on. Simon Kenton is 0-3 but has had no problem scoring. The Pioneers defense has gave up alot of points and yards. It will be homecoming night in Independence.

Beechwood 56

SK 14

I think SK has the offense to put some points on this D but I don’t think SK D has what is takes to slow Beechwood’s offense down.

In the not so distant past, the chatter on here was about 6A SK beating 2A (and 1A for many years) Beechwood. Now the debate is the score and how many points BW will put up and if they will pitch shutout #4. My, times have changed.

It is just one year.  Beechwood may have their best team ever and Simon has been on a slide down for awhile.

The slide of SK has been surprising from my vantage point here in Louisville. Maybe others in NKY have seen this coming or have more insight into the slide.

I am not really sure what is up with Simon Kenton but whatever it is, it isn't good.

I can point to a few things to consider regarding the downslide...

* The loss of defensive coordinator Jesse Herbst to Dayton.

* The overall decline of football numbers in the younger grades. Yes, the numbers are still good at the high school, but for years, South Kenton, Twenhoffel, and Summit View were pumping serious talent into SK year after year. Now kids aren't as polished.

* The overall decline in the feeder programs, both at South Kenton (NKYFL) & Summit View (NKMSA). Twenhoffel, which is still in good shape and supplies talent to SK,  started taking sixth graders - especially the talented ones - from South Kenton a few years back due to questionable leadership in the South Kenton program. Questionable leadership, lack of players means lack of quality leaders/coaches...hence, a downgrade in the varsity program as a result.

Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm not...but I do know these issues above, while not directly responsible, definitely play into the equation.
