Most dominating state championship game.

I'm sure someone will fill in the blanks for me but I recall Highlands having a defensive lineman who weighed less than 200 pounds facing some behemoth from St  X and St. X could not get anything done against him.

Brandon Roller was an absolute stud of a linebacker. One of the best high school linebackers I have ever seen.

Another fun fact that makes that team's accomplishments even more impressive are they changed quarterbacks in the middle of season. Bardo got injured and was replaced by sophomore Patrick Towles. When Bardo returned from injury Highlands moved him to RB. Think about that.

That game final score was 12-7 Highlands.
Highlands dumped the ball 3 times on 3 different times inside the 5.
The score was not an indication of the whooping that Highlands gave St X that night.
Very easily and should have been minimum 32-7. Didn’t matter as a win is a win.
That Highlands team was special and perhaps Dale’s overall best team ever from top to bottom imo.

  • Cincy St X was #1 in nation heading into Ft Thomas that year. They just had their way in Louisville and headed to DCM for the Ky trifecta and got sucker punched ending their National title bid.

  • Belfry's 2015 'ship was impressive. Dominating a solid Lex Cov team 43-0. Also, Mayfield's 42-0 beating of Williamsburg back in 2013.

Coach Specht of St. X was asked by a reporter after the game, what happened? The coach replied "we just came out flat."

One of the few games I missed over 50+ years; I heard about the game while taking my daughter to Murray for a college visit listening to a Reds ballgame .  Marty Brennaman gladly reported what was going on while St X fan Chris Welch was in disbelief.

2003 Boyle Vs Highlands 44-10 final Boyle wins.

I don't think that the overall performance was the most dominating, but the turnaround on this game was for sure dominating.
These two teams played earlier in the season, and it was a Boyle 22-21 victory and one of the craziest hard-fought games I have ever seen. Fast forward to the state game, and Boyle absolutely dominated them from start to finish. After that game coach, Mueller made the comment that playing Boyle on that night was like playing like eleven marines. He said that every tackle sounded like a machine gun with 11 guys hitting the runners. High praises from one of Kentucky's best head coaches.

That Belfry team was filthy good and that was truly a dominating performance in every aspect of the game.

That 2015 Belfry team has an argument as the greatest small school team I have seen in KY, if for no other reason than this, something I am not sure we will ever see a small school accomplish:

Belfry beat 5 teams that went on to reach their respective State Championship games and beat them all including two eventual Champions.

Pikeville (1A State Champion)

Newport Central Catholic (2A Runner-Up)

Lexington Catholic (3A Runner-Up)

Johnson Central (4A Runner-UP)

Knoxville Catholic (TN 4A State Champion)

Average final score of those five games? 37-7 (rounded both numbers up).
