Bowling Green defeats a fine Ashland team 83-57.

Very difficult driving 4+ hours in a bus and then playing on the road.  Tip of the hat to the Tomcats for being willing to travel to BG.

For the Tomcats:

Villers with 15 and Porter with 11

For BG:

Buttry with 29, Mason with 16 and Willie Wilson with 14.

Ashland started ON FIRE with 6 straight 3's and led BG 22-17 after 1.

But BG kept coming and their depth was important in this game.

Ashland hit 8 3's in the game and none in the 2nd half.

Ashland is a tough team and BG could see them again later on.

The Purples keep rolling and face University Heights on the road on Monday.

If you’d have flipped the last 2.5 quarters to begin the game, Bowling Green would have running clocked this one. 

Just finished watching. Bowling Green is for real. Great talent and play well together.

Ashland struggling.

Bowling Green has a really nice team. Ashland can't keep taking 3's when they don't fall. Too many quick shots. At one point in the game buttry (nice player) had 14 ft to ashlands 3.

This wouldn’t have been close no matter which team drove to play the other. Ashland is one dimensional. Live by the 3, die by the 3. BG is balanced.

Maybe Bowling Green is just extremely good, regardless of who they’re playing. They defeated a good 9-1 Somerset team by 32 at Somerset the night before their game with Ashland. Teams just don’t walk into the Briar Hoppers home and beat them 32 points! Unless they are a fantastic team. Obviously BG is. 
Somerset has wins at Boyle Co, Rowan Co, at Tates Creek, Danville, Madison Southern, to name a few. They could possibly win the 12th region. But they lost at home to Bowling Green by 87-55!  
Ashland does take a lot of 3’s and most the time they make a high percentage of them. I would think the long trip had to factor into their last 3 periods of inaccuracies. But the games I’ve watched them play on streaming services this year they also try to drive the ball to the rim, especially Porter but also Villers and Sellars. They are not one dimensional. Obviously Bowling Green was able to take those drives away, which led them to taking a lot of 3’s to try to get points on the board. I didn’t get to watch the game but just piecing together stuff from some of the comments about the game and talking to a few people who did get to watch it that’s what I’m assuming happened.

BG is a very good team.  One thing to note is they were 24 of 25 from the free throw line in this game.  Tough to beat a team when they shoot that many shots from the charity stripe and make them.  Not taking away from the Purples though.  They will be playing in Rupp this year.  

To say Ashland is a one dimensional team is crazy.  They get to the rim, dunk, run the lanes well on the break, drive and kick, etc.  Villers, Sellers, Carter and Porter all shoot very well from 3.  Calling them one dimensional sounds personal and not a true assessment of the team.

I didn’t get to watch it but I talked to someone who did and he said Ashland didn’t shoot a free throw in the game until midway through the 3rd quarter. That’s very unusual for the Tomcats because they usually shoot a healthy number of free throws, mainly because they do drive the ball to the rack for scores or kick outs. At least in the games I’ve seen this year they do that.
