The Cards put together their best performance of the season in Week 5, pounding Paducah Tilghman 36-6. It was complete domination of a quality opponent in a rivalry game. It's the type of game that could help springboard Mayfield (4-1) into a greater championship threat as the season plays out.

Next up for the Cardinals, is winless Ballard Memorial. The Bombers (0-4) have been the ones getting bombed this season. They've been outscored 209-8 in their four losses and, if the numbers reported to the KHSAA are correct, they only average about 70 yards of offense per game.

You hate to see a team struggling like that, but it won't get any better this week. In fact, it could get much worse against twelve time state champion Mayfield.

    Ballard Memorial only had 17 players dress for the game at Caldwell County. Mayfield can name the score.

    Mayfield usually does not run up a score. Will be about 36-0

    I don't know if Ballard Memorial could stop a descent middle school team, and I'm not kidding. We had a freshman break one for 90 yards and rush for over 150 yards, I believe, in the 2nd half, and he was simply running into the line.

    Mayfield should be playing their underclassmen most of this game.  That's great for experience and maybe building some depth.  But it's also an opportunity to let their guard down and become complacent before the showdown with Murray.
