6A Ryle (1-3) is coming into Week 5 hoping to end a three-game skid after a Week 1 romp over Boone County (1-3). The Raiders stack up well on yardage, averaging about 300 yards of offense per game, they have a current balance of about 35/65 ratio of run to pass. Last week against Scott County (4-0), Ryle was within a field goal of tying the game up to the final minutes of the 4th quarter but they couldn't make it happen. Defensively, the Raiders have given up 1119 yards (373 avg) and 86 points in their last three games. So to state the obvious, their offense needs to score more, and their defense needs to stop their opponents from scoring more.

6A Campbell County (2-2) is coming into Week 5 with a little buzz in the air after a big win for their program last week over 1A Pikeville (3-1) and ending a 17-game win streak for the Panthers. The Camels are a more run-centric team than the Raiders are, with a roughly 60/40 ratio of run to pass. The interesting difference between Campbell County and Ryle is that Campbell's offense averages about 50 fewer yards of offense per game, and the Camels D averages far fewer yards allowed each game at 225.

This definitely has the makings of a good game on Friday.

Who wins?

Campbell coming off good win over Pikeville, enough momentum?

That Pikeville win makes Campbell County the favorite in this game for me. There are some interesting storyliness in this one.

Ryle looked pretty good against Scott County so I am not sure I agree with that logic.

Based on this year's body of work, I think Pikeville might be better than Scott County.

Maybe but I am not sure Pikeville was ready to play last week, Scott County and Ryle went at it.  I think I like Ryle in this one.

Calpreps has Campbell County 4 points better than Ryle so this should be good game where either team could win. Turnovers could play a roll in who wins.

I'll be very surprised if Ryle puts up more than 14 points in this game. If Campbell County can score more than 14, they should win.

Ryle has not lost more than 3 straight regular season games under Coach Engler, although this is the 5th time in Engler's 7 years at Ryle that the Raiders have dropped 3 straight games in the regular season. I think that fact, paired with a fairly strong performance against Scott County lends for a good argument that Ryle can win.

Ryle's defense has lacked consistency though. Against Highlands, they couldn't stop the rush. The Birds rolled up 294 rushing yards on them. Then the next week against Beechwood, they couldn't stop the pass. The Tigers threw for 337 yards against them. And last week against Scott County, it was back to the run. The Cardinals had 281 yards rushing on the Raiders.

Offensively, Campbell County's strength has been their run game - and that's what has been the key to two of Ryle's three defeats this season. Also, Campbell County's two most recent games have been significantly better showings than their first two. That seems to evidence that the Camels may have gone from the "breaking in the new boots" phase of the season - which has been exacerbated for everyone this year by the lack of summer practice - to the point where they are starting to really gel as they fit the right pieces into place, and starting looking sharp playing football. They were within 3 points of a pretty solid Oldham County team in Week 3, and then last week they beat the defending 1A state champions in a really good performance. It's just that loss to Conner in Week 2 that is looking a little suspect - especially after Conner was taken out to the wood shed by Highlands last week.

What are your feelings about the winner in this one @Fandamonium?

I tend to agree with your reply @Colonels_Wear_Blue, its tough to doubt Ryle.  They seem to year after year get things rolling and are a contender.

CC just looks good via defense.  Shutdown Pikeville. Held the record holder to 31 yards.

If the defense plays well CC will win.  I agree CC by 14.

Ryle will put one in the win column tonight. Should be a good game though.

Campbell 7 - Ryle 6 at the end of the 1st quarter.
