It cannot be understated how big this win is for Russellville.

You could see steps in the right direction late last season. They’ve just been so young for the last couple years. But to get a win over a championship caliber program like Franklin-Simpson is a huge step forward. Congratulations!

WOWZA!  I didn't see this coming.  But I'm happy for Russellville!  Looks like that district tilt with Crittenden County just got a whole lot more interesting!  Go Panthers!

Some people probably question why 4A Franklin-Simpson still plays 1A Russellville. They have played every year of the existence of the FS football program, 77 years now I believe. Russellville has a proud, historic program themselves. Until Bowling Green won several state titles in the last decade, Russellville had more state football championships in the South Central Kentucky area than anyone else. Russellville generally  beats FS two or three times a  decade, so the rivalry hasn’t been as one-sided as some may think. 

Russellville had some good speed and more size than usual it seemed. They had a solid game plan defensively and executed it almost to perfection.  FS played pretty well on defense, only giving up one score, but the offensive line needs some improvement.  FS tends to start slowly most seasons and improves, sometimes dramatically, as the season wears on.

I'm sure Russellville and Franklin being in the same district for all other sports has forged a good relationship between the schools, too. Thanks for the info, FS. Seventy-seven years is a long time to keep going. I'm glad this rivalry has continued!

There’s no doubt Russellville is improved but Franklin is probably down a little from what they have been. I think this sets up a interesting district schedule for Franklin, if I had to pick a favorite right now I would probably go with Allen Co but it’s a long season and most teams will get better the more they play.

After what Russell County did to Warren East I think they have to be considered.
