After winning just 1 game in 2017, the Trimble County football team for the most part disbanded. Students wanting to play football were allowed to transfer without penalty and a few moved to Carroll County.

In 20-21, according to the Trimble County Facebook page, they will be fielding a varsity team. The KHSAA Team Alignment page does not have them listed in the last district they played in, Class 2A District 5, so we'll wait to see if the are placed back with Walton-Verona, Owen County, Gallatin County, Shawnee & Carroll County.

We're glad to see the program back on it's feet!!!

Technically they did play one varsity game last year, a loss to Switzerland County (Indiana).

Trimble did this right. When the team was shut down, several freshmen who had never played before came out in an effort to save the team. It was noble but would have been a disaster. Instead, they emphasized practice with the high school team that first year. They then moved to a junior varsity focus the next year. Now they’re on the verge of returning to varsity play.

Instead of getting kids hurt and losing interest due to losses to much bigger and better teams, they’ve consciously built from the ground up. They may never win a state title but their game plan is commendable and more teams might benefit from a similar method.

On the KHSAA website, it shows they have 2 games scheduled against Lou Shawnee & Lex Sayre.

They are playing the Indiana team again this year. I’m guessing there may be a few more. Schools input schedules and they’ve likely not done it yet.
