Bama's coaching search?

Hey Larry,

Have any of those fans that love Paul Johnson seen Navy's offense? A steady diet of fullback dives might make those same fans long for the Shula offense.

Imo absolutely nothing wrong with running the football and running the option. Bear Bryant did o.k. with it along with others like Switzer, Osborne, Hayes, Dye, Dooley to name a few. I hear people say that that kind of philosophy couldn't win today.....I disagree, you still play 11 on a side and you still have to block, tackle and execute basic football fundamentals. It worked then and it will work now. JMO

But you don't bring in big-time recruits with this system. And oldrambler, you and I both know that program perception is almost as important as wins today. If top-level recruiting classes aren't coming to Tuscaloosa and then an option coach loses a couple Iron Bowls and finishes 8-4, are the fans restless again?

I heard him mentioned at North Carolina State, Arizona State and Stanford. The first two have already been filled, while Stanford is still open. Chow would probably be a good fit at Stanford with his west coast connections, but that program is so down he might not want the headache.

I haven't heard any mention of him at Alabama. He's widely regarded as one of the best offensive minds in football and that's what Alabama needs more than anything. Do you think there is the perception that an Asian-American (he's from Hawai'i) couldn't recruit the Deep South?

I wouldn't think so, he's well respected by all the experts and seems to have his style of play, that is appealing.

Didn't Stanford hire someone also?....I thought I read that.

Stanford hasn't hired yet. I can't even find any rumored head coaches!

What's the time table for an Alabama hire?

...I must be loosing my mind, or this pneumonia has dulled my senses. I need to stay awake more and watch SportsCenter, I thought they said a coach accepted the Stanford position.....

I would imagine, hiring the 'Bama coach would be done within the next 10 days or so, for recruiting purposes. I'm sure other programs, have made a late run at the potential 'Bama players, since they are without a coach now.

I can understand what you are saying here and you made some good points. What I wa saying is that style of football will still win. Imo if you win you will get big time recruits and a good coach / recruiter can sell his program, that is part of being a great coach - a kid wants to play where he can win and have a shot at a conference and NC.

Strike...from what I understand there are several top coaches still out there who might be interested. I don't think a college assistant is on our list or a Bama Staffer. There has been more info put out there on Paul Johnson that it would take me two hours to share evrything. What I get is at Navy you are not going to get "skill kids" to come there. Most really good players have a dream for the NFL and the service schools, well y'all know how it is. So when you see Navy turn their program around and beat the other service schools says a lot. He is mentioned a lot by Fans.

One thing we know whoever we select there will not be 100% agreeable. I still wanted Coach Schiano to get a close look. Most coaches are getting ready for the bowl game or the NFL is still playing. Believe it when we told Coach Rod if he came here he could still coach the Neers bowl game. Coach Kines will coach ours. Heres what I tell my budies at Church and at work. Be serious...Name a coach that would fit at Bama. Now when I ask that don't say Jim Tressel or Pete Carroll etc. guys like that are not leaving. I can't think of many, but we only need one. For now.

Thanks.....:thumb: and great insight.

I'm wondering, with the public pursuit of Rodriguez being the first choice and deciding to stay at WVU, if other coaches and their "egos" would possibly ask for more and more, since their were leaks or insinuations, about what they would have paid Rodriguez.

We have heard "break the bank" a few times. Here is something I'll share...There is a booster who gives a very large amount to the school and money is no problem. He gave $5 million last year and yes the NCAA knows about him and its OK. But you have to keep it in perspective and not like the Boston Red Sox for a certain pitcher from Japan.

Great post AL - very well stated.

....Donors like that, help larger institutions in many ways. I would presume the athletic budget, at a school like 'Bama can be staggering, not to mention the general budget.

I'm sure they will find a good coach and I'm curious to see, if they are from the college ranks or currently employed in the NFL.

Thats the best news that I have heard in a while!

I thought this guy signed to be the new manager of the Texas Rangers.

At his Press Conference he stated before it began..."if anyone has any questions...I'll kick them in the ear...each ear." The stock for "Just For Men" has doubled in Alabama.
