@HSBballfan1212 I've seen this done in NKY and Louisville both on several occasions, and I don't go to very many basketball games. I guess you don't get out too much.

A clerical matter:

 

The score reflected here in the thread title "Covington Catholic 64 Newport 36" was based on the audio broadcast of the game and the scoreboard at the game. Apparently at some point in the 4th quarter there was a discrepancy between the officials/official scorekeepers and the individual managing the scoreboard at the arena. Despite the fact that the scoreboard said 64-36 at the end of the game and the broadcasts seemed to reflect the same, the actual final score of the game was 63-36. Both Newport's scorekeeper and Cov Cath's scorekeeper had 63-36 as the final score, and that is the score officially entered with the KHSAA.

 

I'm changing that in the thread title to reflect the correct info.

Just like you get your feelings hurt when anyone dares to speak out against the Cov Cath way. I firmly believe that they wouldn't be so loathed and criticized if they would do some things the right way. I think it's great a NKY school can be successful but have some respect for your other schools. There is a reason why NCC isn't playing them anymore and I would suspect more will follow. It has nothing to do with them beating them either I can guarantee that.

 

I think you mistake our "feelings being hurt" for our eye rolls.

You realize this is during the national anthem (I was there as well) and what Cov Cath does is while the other team's starters are being introduced? I actually don't mind this during the anthem.

They stand there during introductions of the other team as well.

 

What makes me scratch my head is why you apparently don't mind a team doing that during the national anthem, but when it's done otherwise, oh man, it's just completely and utterly ridiculous and unsportsmanlike.

If you are going to quote me or mention me in your post, at least get the facts straight. No issue whatsoever with them standing that way for the national anthem, in fact all teams should do it.

 

Doing it while the other teams starting lineup is being introduced is meant as a form of intimidation and disrespect of the opponent. I would like to see an opposing team when announced go through their “line” and slap everyone’s hand and see how that goes.

In the interest of not helping divert this thread from the game any more, I started a thread with a poll about the way that some teams line up on the foul line during the National Anthem and team introductions. That discussion can be continued there. This thread is about the Cov Cath and Newport game.

 

Also, as a matter of actual fact from the game, the pre-game technical was assessed against Cov Cath for dunking, as was explained by the official. It had nothing to do with the way Cov Cath was lined up at any point during the pre-game warmups and activities.

They line up across and stare down the other team, coaches included in this. It is a form of trying to intimidate the opponent and a ridiculous practice.

I have never seen this done at any level except by Cov Cath. I don't think that it shows anything other than practicing poor sportsmanship from the get go.

I could be wrong, because I haven’t been down to the state games in awhile. However, don’t they have the teams, including the whole school administration for both teams stand in a straight line at the top of the key for introductions for the state title game?

 

I obviously am not a Covcath fan, but this is just silly. If I was at that game and seen that, I wouldn’t have even thought anything of it. It is no different than a team having music playing for home games during starting lineups to hype people up. No one ever says that is just trying to intimidate someone. I can’t believe anyone would have a problem with this.
