I've always liked Griffey but players need to play, where the Coaches and Management put them....If its being discussed this winter and he's asked to play Right or Left, than he should prepare himself this winter and spring, for any of the possibilities,

Also, those who decry talking to JR in doing this absolutely crack me up. How many of the same people would work for their employee for 6-12 years doing the same job each and every day and would GLADLY accept the boss coming in and saying, hey Bob, tomorrow, you are doing this job instead of the job that you have been doing for the past 12 years and you believe you are doing a good job at.

 

I am sure all of you who are ripping JR and being offended talking to him about the move, would look your boss deeply in his eyes and say, "Yes sir" and be happy about it.

:confused: :confused: I absolutely do not believe these comments. Griffy's job is to play baseball where the manger sees fit for him to play..................PERIOD! I for one did what my boss told me to do to the best of my ability regardless if it made me happy or not. You see, I wanted to keep my job, pay my bills and support my family. That is just the way things work unless you are self employed and even then you have someone to answer to and produce for, be it customers-other providers or who or whatever. I admire Griffey for not taking all his money at once to free up some for the team/mangement but he is being paid that money, just over a longer stretch of time. I really think that I could make it on his "cut salary":eek: . I agree with others in that he should have been consulted more (maybe) but it boils down to playing baseball is his job. If he doesn't want to play where the manger sees fit then I say "don't let the screen door hit him where the good Lord split him" on his way out. ( the next time I might tell you how I really feel :irked: )

Hard to argue with those kind of numbers. He has some great wheels so he has as you stated in another thread (TUP).

No, in a performance based business where you have woefully underperformed (regardless of circumstance) and are being compensated at an astronomical rate, perhaps it is he that should have some respect and Heaven forbid, offer to move if it would help the team in anyway. At his age, I would hope the simple fact that he still commands respect from management, fans, players, etc. that he would be a team player enough to make a move to a corner outfield position, especially if the postseason would be more attainable if he did so. Good grief, they're not asking him to get behind the plate and call games or play middle infield.

Well, at the age of 27, Dunn has already had 2 of the 3 greatest offensive years in Reds modern history (40 / 100 / 100 / 100....twice. Only Joe Morgan did it as well...he did it once). Additionally, as you know, the Reds' organization has been around for awhile. You may be interested to see the 27 year old's place in Team History:

 

HR's -- 7th All-Time. (Could pass Foster and will pass Davis next year [barring trade])

Runs Scored -- 30th All-Time. Should be in Top 10 by the age of 30.

RBI -- 26th All-Time (tied with Griffey Senior, ironically, and ahead of Junior)

TB -- 31st All-Time

BB -- 10th All-Time (next year he'll pass Perez in over 1,000 fewer games)

OBP -- 3rd All-Time (one spot ahead of Peter Edward Rose)

Slug -- 4th All-Time (one 1,000th of a point behind Foster, and the same margin ahead of Klu)

So you're saying they won nothing before 75? I realize Morgan wasn't there when the Reds played Baltimore in the world series but Rose and Bench were. You are discussing the golden era of Reds baseball here. Griffey Dunn whoever have no business being mentioned in tne same breath.
