The funny thing is he could go out there right now and be one of the best CF in the MLB. I dont think people realize it but Griffey knows if he can make a play or not. People see him slow down after a hit ball and they call him a slacker. Griffey is so good he knows if he can get there or not. So why risk diving for a ball if your not going to catch it, and get hurt.

If he thinks he can still play CF let the man play there.

 

 

He's 38 (I think) and his hamstring was seperated from the bone. They did a surgery that has never been done to fix him. He should move to 1st or DH IMO because he's too old and injury prone to play OF anymore.

While Jr. took a lot of heat for it this summer, but this is honestly, the best way to handle it instead of the middle of a pennant race.

 

Also, those who decry talking to JR in doing this absolutely crack me up. How many of the same people would work for their employee for 6-12 years doing the same job each and every day and would GLADLY accept the boss coming in and saying, hey Bob, tomorrow, you are doing this job instead of the job that you have been doing for the past 12 years and you believe you are doing a good job at.

 

I am sure all of you who are ripping JR and being offended talking to him about the move, would look your boss deeply in his eyes and say, "Yes sir" and be happy about it.

Aren't guys "the boss" for a reason. This is a WEAK arguement because this should have happened at least 3 years ago. If I were the GM I'd A, Move him to 1B. B. With the OF not so deep I'd move him to right. C. Trade him.

No, in a performance based business where you have woefully underperformed (regardless of circumstance) and are being compensated at an astronomical rate, perhaps it is he that should have some respect and Heaven forbid, offer to move if it would help the team in anyway. At his age, I would hope the simple fact that he still commands respect from management, fans, players, etc. that he would be a team player enough to make a move to a corner outfield position, especially if the postseason would be more attainable if he did so. Good grief, they're not asking him to get behind the plate and call games or play middle infield.

The Reds shouldn't CONSIDER the option they should make it happen. If not they are doing a poor job. 5 months is planty of time for Griffey to get over his old self and move to right field. Teaching keyboarding and business would require lesson plan changes, training, and learning a new subject to proficiency. Moving to right field requires reps. That's it. It's not a major move. My beef is that Griffey shouldn't be asked. I agree they should explain, and give him 5 months notice, and I didn't expect it to happen on Opening Day. Then I am not sure I see the complaint. I think they have handled it perfectly, with a little reading into the situation. I think they have asked JR to consider it with the implication that there is a STRONG possibility that it will happen.

He had a set of rules for the superstars and another set of rules for the not-so-superstars. It was simply the superstars went about doing their jobs no matter what, their jobs got done.

I hope we somehow end up with another guy in center, if for nothing else, so as to see if he would move without a beef and if you'd actually rip Jr. for anything if he complained. Nothing wrong with being a homer, but even HSSB can bash Dunner if he's across the line!
