Can Anyone Stop LSU?

Featured Replies

LSU was going to score on Clemson no doubt. Doesn’t take away from the fact, that you have failed to acknowledge that matchups do matter. Some teams simply do match up better against other teams. I do think OSU would match up better. Plus from what I saw in that Clemson vs OSU game was OSU was the better team and beat themselves that day more than Clemson beat them. Meaning OSU probably wins more than losses if they play ten times. Then on offense too, as I keep saying I think OSU offense is simply better than Clemsons. Meaning yes, I do think they would have scored more than Clemsons 25 points.

At the end of the day it comes down to one thing and that is us disagreeing on who was better, which is fine. I hate OSU and usually love to put them down but only if i truly believe it. From what I saw OSU was the better team, and the better team simply lost that day. Much like the Ravens and Saints lost in the NFL playoffs to teams they probably are better than, but on that given day they were not.

OSU was clearly betted for one quarter...not so much for the last three quarters. Fast forward to the 2nd quarter and watch the rest of the game and then tell me you honestly think they were better. Ohio State started hot, Clemson made adjustments and OSU never countered.

I watched it very closely. Remember I was the one in the update thread telling people like you that the game wasn’t over like you and others were starting to claim that it may be. Clemson is a good team and I knew in football if you let a team your better than hang around by not putting them away, the momentum could switch and becomes a ball game.

Yet for Clemson to win this game they needed OSU to stall out multiple times in the red zone, which have to give credit to Clemson defense there. Clemson needed a targeting call on a sack that was going to make them punt, that instead led to a touchdown. They needed an OSU roughing the punter on fourth down, that led once again to another Clemson touchdown. So two times they had them stopped, and two times OSU extended the drives for Clemson that led to touchdowns. It wasn’t Clemson being better, it was OSU not getting out of their own way. Which I doubt happens again if they play the game ten times.

Then you have a very controversial overturn where OSU should have had a fumble recovery for a td, that the refs decided was incomplete for some reason. Then even with all that going against them, OSU was still winning the game with two minutes to go. Then even after Clemson scored, OSU marched right back down the field and was in position to go win the game. Then a miscommunication leads to a pick to end the game.

So yes credit to Clemson for not making mistakes and beating themselves. Which obviously is a part of winning. However, chances OSU making all those mistakes again were very slim. So it is very easy for me to think OSU was and is the better team, and quite simply the better team just lost that day like we see happen in sports.

With all that said, since this is an LSU thread. Since I think OSU was better than Clemson. Is why I think they would have given LSU a better game, but with the same result of LSU winning.

99% of Buckeye nation agrees with you that we would have lost as well, yet were homers. You find out who really hates OSU when you simply say “it would have been a better game,” which it would have been, in a LOSS. We can’t even get credit for being the first loser on here, potentially, second place which means a whole lot of nothing lol. Good times, I’m looking forward to August, but will enjoy the break until next season.

First, I agree with you in that I believe OSU would have given LSU a better game, but that is just our opinion/belief. I don't think it has anything to do with "credit", because that assumes that OSU did something that Clemson did not to deserve our opinion/belief. While I disagree with JD's opinion, he has as much (if not more) reason to believe Clemson gave LSU a better game than OSU would have. I don't think it is a shot at OSU or their credit that he believes differently than we do.

I'm not going to get involved into this that much, but...the only thing I hate people saying is the old "oh, team A beat team B, and team B beat team C, so therefore team A would definitely beat team C." In some instances, you may be able to make that case. But, in this one, I don't think we'll ever definitively know.

Heck, if the seeding had been different (OSU at #1, and LSU #2) and LSU-Clemson was a semifinal game, would we have seen the same result? Maybe. Or maybe LSU actually learned something from seeing Clemson play Ohio State first, and wouldn't have necessarily had that same knowledge going into the game without it. Heck, maybe LSU just took OSU's game blame and executed it better.
