December 5, 200619 yr And UM should take heat for how they played in that game. No argument here. They started looking ahead, and it almost got them. But vote them down THEN. That didn't happen. Same as when they stayed #2 after the loss... Having watched that game from a pretty good seat I can tell you a couple of things. First, UM didn't play great by any stretch. Second, it was senior day, and we all know what happens on senior day when you get a lead. Some guys, primarily in the defensive backfield, got some PT, got burned for 3 scores(1 guy really), and boom Ball St. is back in the game. It's little things like this that don't really show up on paper that matter. UM had a pretty much vanilla gameplan, didn't throw the ball unless they had to, and still came away with the W. Was it impressive, absolutely not. But Lloyd, nearly to his downfall, wanted to pay back some of the guys who have put in 4 years and haven't seen the field much. I can respect that. And for the record, UF didn't exactly play well either against Vandy(who is definately comparable to Ball St.) or South Carolina.
December 5, 200619 yr Michigan beat Ball State by a WHOPPING 8 points (34-26). Just for reference, Florida beat LSU, and Arkansas by more. Anyone remember the margin for the Florida vs. Western Carolina? SIXTY-TWO points. 62-0 Now when you that to the fact that even with West Carolina on the schedule they STILL had the undisputed toughest schedule in football, what do you say? Florida didn't schedule tough enough?? Ball St. and Western Carolina aren't even on the same field. Is Thomas More comparable to Western Carolina? And Western Carolina is a BAD, BAD D1AA team, as Ball St. is a BAD 1A team. So what I see is a whole division of talent in between the two schools. Even still, you beat them by 62 in a name your score game(as well it should be). How'd UF fare against Vandy? What about South Carolina or 6-6 FSU? And by the way, they conveniently don't add or subtract points to a teams SOS if they play a team that is not Division 1A, so that doesn't fly either.
December 5, 200619 yr MCPAPA, your assumption is that a 8-team playoff would not have the flaws that you accuse the BCS of having. And that has been posted many times this season alone in showing it would. Any playoff will have a conference tie-in. With the 6 BCS conferences, Wake Forest and Oklahoma are in. With Michigan obviously taking one of the two at-large bids, than you have to choose one team from......Boise State, #4 ranked LSU or Wisconsin. If Boise State did not make it in on a playoff (meaning you are now leaving out the #4 ranked team in the nation, LSU), the mid-majors should get together and sue because they are being excluded when they are undefeated. Hey, they're already penalizing teams for not winning their conferences, so what would be different than now? We won't see a playoff at least until I'm way too old to get on here and post everyday, but we will see the +1 system in the near future.

Michigan didn't fare much better against Vandy than UF did. Anyway, if you want, take Western Carolina out of consideration for Florida's schedule. Count it as a by week. Florida played an extra game anyway.

Ask OSU a few years back. Here's a list of teams Florida beat... LSU (Sugar Bowl) Arkansas (Captial One Bowl) Tennessee (Outback Bowl) Georgia (Chick-fil-A Bowl) Kentucky (Music City Bowl) South Carolina (Liberty Bowl) Alabama (Independence Bowl) Florida State (Emerald City Bowl) and you sit there and whine about one easy game... amazing. OSU is the unanimous #1 and in my honest opinion they don't go undefeated with this schedule (Throw in @Auburn in the game Florida lost)

OSU is the unanimous #1 and in my honest opinion they don't go undefeated with this schedule (Throw in @Auburn in the game Florida lost) I can't argue with that kind of logic. First, posting bowl games is great, but aren't these bids guaruanteed for 90% of these teams, if not all? So what does that mean? They had a winning record? Great. And if you read the comments earlier, I didn't start the "style points" argument, on the contrary, it was made by mobaar saying that UM beat Ball St. by a "whopping 6 points". So read all the posts before you assign blame and accuse me of whining. Good try though. I was simply saying that the sword cuts both ways for both teams. If OSU is the UNANIMOUS #1, what is that saying? Is that saying that everyone agrees that they are the best team in the country? I think it is. I don't think Florida goes 12-1 if they play USC's schedule, but what the heck does that matter? I think that LSU is the best team in the SEC, so by that logic they should get in over UF? Hardly.
December 5, 200619 yr By that logic UK has a good argument to be in the title game. Simply defending a claim by a SEC supporter saying that UM squeaked by Ball St. Nothing more nothing less.
December 6, 200619 yr Simply defending a claim by a SEC supporter saying that UM squeaked by Ball St. Nothing more nothing less. Saying UM squeaked by Ball St. is stupid such as saying Florida squeaked by Vanderbilt. Everyone has up and down games. Ohio State played an awful second half against Illinois but that means about two cents right now.

Ohio State played an awful second half against Illinois but that means about two cents right now. :thumb: Agreed, and that was what I was going for. But to say that UM was less deserving than UF because they squeaked by Ball St. is just plain silly. Furthermore, to tout a beating laid on a terrible 1AA school as somehow better than beating a Division 1 school is just crazy. No dispute from me.
December 8, 200619 yr What is the single goal of the BCS as stated? I thought it was #1 vs #2. Guess not... #1 vs #2 is what they got.....When the final tally came in, UF was rated ahead of UM in the BCS poll.....Had UM been ranked #2, they would be playing in the championship.....They weren't, so, in more peoples opinion and in the BCS formula used, they got it right.....That doesn't mean that there aren't other people who THINK UM is the better team, but, with what we have in place now, it is what it is ...1 vs 2

What went on was a changing of the rules in place on the fly. Next time, I'll guess that voters will be slick enough to move someone in Florida's situation to #3 behind USC a week earlier. But I guess to do that they would have to believe Florida would beat Arkansas before the game was played. If it smells like a skunk...
