Coach Wallace made a comment in paper about it’ll be nice when St. X can be competitive in these types of games; what was the main issue or top two issues that caused St. X not to be competitive?

Both of the Male games, the Trinity game, and the first Manual game were lost in the lines of scrimmage. That should be embarrassing for the St. X program with a tradition of developing linemen. Surprisingly, the Tigers were not significantly beaten on the perimeter; they were soundly beaten physically. Coach Wallace is a successful coach, but he is a “get the ball out in space” coach. 6A football is won in the lines of scrimmage. Is it necessary to have good skill players? Yes. But it is imperative to win the physical battle. St. X must improve the physicality in the program to get back on top.

Sorry to say, but I think Woolford was a failed experiment. said it was a mistake almost from day one. Not on campus during the day. No development of players. No relationship to the players. Interesting that when we advertised for a coach this time that qualifications were teaching certificate, head coach experience.

Yup. Wasted a couple of classes that should’ve easily won states.

QB play needs to improve. To many interceptions and overthrowing open receivers plus had some drops by receivers. Felt bad for Bodhaine getting pulled at halftime but he was off tonight. Only had 11 yds passing at half. Will be interesting to see who QB will be next year between Mekhi Smith, Jack Sivori, and Adam Boone.

 

How good is Adam Boone? Is Mekhi Smith a QB?

Is Mekhi Smith a QB? No. But can he do it as a wrinkle? Absolutely. I agree with the Wolford era and the LOS play over the last two seasons. It just hasn’t been very good. I think Boone will be a good QB, but I would be willing to bet Savori will be the starting QB next with all things being equal. Will Doug did an admiral job the last two seasons he struggled with accuracy which is a problem in the type of system Wallace wants to run.

If we can claim titles never won, I think I’ll claim a couple from the 30’s for Trinity. I’m sure they would have won them if they had been open.

Wolford dismantled an offense in his first season that was handmade by Glaser to power to the championship. He was a lineman but really did not develop any lineman for D1, and these Juniors and Seniors were his players.

If I have a criticism of Glaser it was his hardheadedness to not open up his offense. Nobody wanted 30 passes a game, but mix it up. I think that failure to open up the offense cost us speedy and skilled athletes over the years.

FWIW -I have heard the same thing from several sources who have been to several games

STX will be back sooner rather than later. From what I hear both their FR & Soph classes have a lot of talent. Nothing against Woolford but the program took a few steps backward under his tenure as coach. This is a 24/7 job. Hopefully Wallace has the foundation he needs to get the program past the 3rd round of the playoffs. I would think a few changes will be coming in his coaching staff. A lot of young talent in the program needs the best coaching it can get.

I get that it is great when one of your school's sons can be the head coach but when there are more qualified candidates, you have to get them.

Next year the Tigers two deep depth chart going to have a lot of Juniors and Sophmores from those two talented classes. Tigers return 6 starters on offense which 3 of those are on OL and other 3 are at receiver. Defense will return 4 starters at LB, 2 DB, and a safety.

I get that it is great when one of your school's sons can be the head coach but when there are more qualified candidates, you have to get them.

 

It has been that way in every sport. For the great majority of the time it has worked. Name the sport. It is an alumnus or an assistant coach moving up. Went outside the box a few years ago for wrestling and it was an unmitigated disaster.
