What 6A team has the toughest game this week?

Featured Replies

OK. Let's stop the silly talk about LaSalle being an average team. I know it irritates people that Cov Cath beat them, and it probably was just one of those nights for LaSalle. But the fact is Cov Cath got the win. Now, if we are going to rank all these Cincinnati teams versus Cov Cath and other Kentucky teams, here is how calpreps.com ranks them all with their NATIONAL ranking in parenthesis:

Elder (25)

Fairfield (39)

Cincy St. X (41)

Winton Woods (84)

Covington Catholic (110)

Colerain (121)

LaSalle (133)

Male (157)

Trinity (172)

Cincy X vs Lou X live stream at livesportscaster.com or go to saintx.com live streaming. Pregame starts at 7:05.

All good matchups.

#1 Male vs #4 Manual - tough match-up for both schools with Male favored.

#2 Trinity at #4 5A Bowling Green - Trinity is heavily favored but BG is a tough team.

#5 Louisville St. X vs Cincinnati OH - very tough match-up.

#6 Central Hardin vs #5 5A South Oldham - either team could win.

#9 Henderson County at #7 5A Owensboro - Owensboro favored.

CalPREPS says:

Male over Manual 35-17.

Trinity over BG 31-6.

Owensboro over Henderson 28-7.

St. X (Cincy) over St. X (Lville) 38-7.

Central Hardin over South Oldham 27-22

So the toughest hill to overcome for 6A top 10 this week seem to be:

1. Louisville St. X - projected to lose by 31 points.

2. Henderson County - projected to lose by 21 points.

3. Manual - projected to lose by 18 points.

Male, Trinity and Central Hardin are projected to win.

Can't argue with the above logic regarding "the toughest hill"....but I REALLY like what is shaping up to be a really great matchup between 6A #6 Central Hardin and 5A #6 South Oldham....

Central Hardin vs. South Oldham live video The Pegasus Sports Network - PSN beginning at 7 pm ET tonight.

Both teams ranked #6 ( in 6A and in 5A).

Both coaches with superb records (South Oldham's Jamie Reed, 10th season, 89-30 .748 and Central's Tim Mattingly, 6th season, 51-22 .699)

South has won 10 games or more four consecutive seasons and appears likely to make it five straight. The Dragons haven't won fewer than 8 games since 2011 when they went 6-5. South has had 10 straight winning seasons.

Central Hardin has won 10 or more games 3x in the last five years and is close to a fourth.

Both teams rank in the top five in scoring and scoring defense in their classes:

6A Central Hardin #3 scoring at 41.4 ppg and #5 in scoring Defense at 14.2 ppg

5A South Oldham #4 in scoring at 45.1 ppg and #2 in scoring defense at 4.7 ppg

Both teams rank in the top 10 in 3 of 4 offensive and defensive yardage measures:

6A Central Hardin is #5 in rushing (232.4 yards/game), #5 in passing (215.8 yards/game), and #4 in passing allowed (92.9 yards / game)

5A South Oldham is #9 in rushing (240.6 yards/game), #10 in rushing defense (81 yards/game), and #3 in passing defense (47.2 yards / game)

Individual stars:

Central Hardin: RB Deonco Wilkerson is #11 in 6A with 807 rushing yards (10 TDs)

quarterback Chase Elmore is #4 in class 6A, averaging 211 passing yards per game.

receiver Gavin George is #3 in class 6A, with 1,039 receiving yards (9 TDs) He also leads class 6A on defense with 9 interceptions.

South Oldham Class 5A

receiver Ethan Bednarczyk is #9 in class 5A with 526 yards receiving (9 TDs)

Kicker Connor Langford has made more PATs than anyone in 5A, converting on 51 of 52 PATs (98.1%)

The South Oldham defense is #1 in class 5A with 18 total interceptions on the season, with 8 different players grabbing at least one.

I've been looking forward to this game all year on the schedule, and hope it doesn't disappoint. If it's as good as the matchup appears on paper, it could be great.

CALPREPS picked all but the Central Hardin game. What a blow out shocker there. Trinity is the only favorite that covered the predicted outcome. They won by 28 over Bowling Green and were projected to win by 25.

Manual lost by 1, Louisville St. X lost by 5 and Henderson lost by 6 - all much closer than predicted.

The old saying of “Why they play the games” what’s on paper doesn’t always materialize.
