I think 10-0 is a very tough task for any team. There is definately no penciling in being done on my part. I just think that with hard work in the off season, strength and conditioning, leftover hungriness, and all of the talent and virtually entire team returning, that it is possible. A lot of the teams that you would normally dread playing lose some key players but will still be good. I just think that Corbin will be favored in each game. Whether or not they capitalize on it and can handle the lofty expectations that will more than likely be on them is a different story. These boys hasn't had big expectations like past Corbin teams except during their freshman year.

I know for a fact that we have week 11 open, we had plans on playing Harlan, yes your right Harlan, that alone tells me we are headed in the wrong direction. Harlan went in a different direction, Bell Co. has week 11 open so why don't we cont. with them. If Jewell doesn't want to play Bell, let Duncum take over he will play them.

 I'm not sure what that means. Maybe you should elaborate!

even if the Corbin/Russell game had been at played in Coach Jewell's driveway, the outcome would have been the same. Corbin played a courageous game, but caught Russell hurting, and still had trouble on the lines of scrimmage.

let's not discredit the Devils. Luck had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the run they have been on the past few seasons. Good teams make their own luck. Russell had most likely the only defense in AA that could slow down Mercer, as Mercer's did Russell's.

The Devils stonewalled Belfry, who hammered Middlesboro, the same Middlesboro who hung 62 on Corbin.

So to say Corbin would have had an answer for Mercer's offense is going out on a limb, wouldn't one think ?:fire:

Stopping Mercer is I'm sure easier said than done...............and Russell was the only one who did it, so I would say the answer to your question is YES.

NO DOUBT in my mind that Corbin COULD/SHOULD have beat Russell, we had every opportunity to beat the Red Devils but shot ourself in the foot on too many occasions. Russell was not the cause, we did it to ourself. I left the Russell field unimpressed with the Russell team. I also am miffed at mention of Russell "hurting", first we have heard of it on here........before or after the game, but I have (along with others) discovered that Russell fans have built in excuses for close games or losses. Our d figured out the wing T at halftime and stopped it, your coach finally figured out in the (late) 4th quarter to rush 3 or 4 and drop 7 or 8, if not Corbin wins by 2 TDs, bottom line.

I got a kick out of Russell fans dreaming that they are as tradition rich as the Redhounds......get 3 or 4 more trophies then we'll talk, what have you got? 2? Not too bad, alot of schools would like to have 2. Just don't think you guys are all high and mighty because you won it last year. Russell does have a nice record every year, but who wouldn't playing their schedule?

Now, you guys do have a fine ballclub and a lot of enthusiasm for it, a good coach..........your stadium is top notch! The field could have been MUCH better, I was on it and sunk a couple inches.....I know it rained, but not that much. (NUFF SAID). I don't mean to slight you. Russell was probably the 3rd or 4th best team we played all year. I am pretty sure that Corbin would have lost to Mercer, a team that gets students from numerous school districts is hard to handle.

I hope we meet you guys again in a couple years

You had every opportunity to beat Russell but did not because the defense stepped up and stopped them. As for hurting. Kasey Clark had a torn meniscus, Jacob Sizemore had just recently came back from surgery, Nick Lewis had just came back from a broken collar bone. There are 3 pretty significant issues right off the top of my head. All in all it was a decent game and if you came away unimpressed with Russell then that was your perogitave. Russell plays solid, fundamental football and most people from this area know and respect that.

If Russell was the 3rd or 4th best team you played all year i would like to know who was better?

I would venture to say that Rock was a better team.

With Russell probably coming in 2nd

Week 11 wasn't the open week unless it has changed. The open week was going to be 3 or 4 not 11. It may have changed. I'll find your facts out for you.

Kasey Clark didn't look like he had a torn meniscus in our game nor the state game. ( that was affecting him) 90% of football players have a torn meniscus (cartilage) if you have ever played a sport its torn a little or if it pops a little.. I had had the injury you are talking of. If it was bad enough to affect him in the game against Corbin it would have still been affecting him in the state game and i saw it in neither. I saw a very good back that got stopped and got frustrated and now i hear fans that are making excuses for why he got stopped. The fact of the matter is Corbin stepped up to the plate and STOPPED Kasey Clark on the ground but failed to do so in the air and over looked the QB.

I'm not making excuses. I am going by what his father and the trainer said. If you noticed in the state game he was not 100%. That is part of the reason Kasey got stopped. Plus that is part of the reason that they did not go to him every play. Not saying that if he was 100% that he would have ran over everyone. Just putting that information out there. If you remember in 04 Josh Gross played all season with a brace on his leg and was almost unstoppable.

not sure why you are so angry, you're pushing plain old chat room flaming with your response.

the first line of your post says it all, COULD/SHOULD. you didn't, the scoreboard says it all. doesn't matter who figured out what at halftime, or who shot themsleves in the foot, the better team won.

and all mudslinging aside, this wasn't a matchup that would have went 5 each way if it were played 10 times. Corbin played well, and Russell didn't appear to be on track all night. maybe you can attribute that to Corbin's effort.

I also think you should research Russell's schedule. Obviously it was harder than Mercer's, no offense to them. I hope you aren't hanging your hat on beating one team 2-0, obviously they were down a bit.

you are only remembered for your last game. Corbin may have a nice tradition, but not as well known and respected as Russell's. Corbin's best days were back when our grandfather's were in diapers, that's not a slam, just a fact.

Kasey Clark played the playoffs with a torn meniscus. Thankfully he isn't the entire team, but anyone who has seen him play knew he was really slowed down by this injury.

side note- the hit he came up from safety, and laid on the Corbin player who caught a 4'th quarter swing pass. was the most brutal hit I have seen in HS football, playing or watching.

I hope you do well in the new 2A class. but to say you hope you play Russell in a few years, says you that feel you can't defeat them in the upcoming seasons either.:fire:

Corbin's tradition dates all the way back to the 70's, 80's and 90's, I guess your grandfather must be pretty young. I would have to say that Corbin's tradition is better known across the entire state than is Russells. The reason I say I hope we meet up again in a couple years is because Corbin should be moving up to 3A when the next alignment comes...I would love to see Corbin play Russell next year.

IMO, best teams that Corbin played this season were:

Rockcastle, Bell, Russell/Middlesboro. Rock and Bell had better defensive teams than Russell, Russell had a better offense. Middlesboro had the best offense of any team that I have seen in a few years.

Everyone will play non-district games the last couple of weeks. The KHSAA set up schedules for district games due to the new setup so you won't have teams playing in Week 11 and then in the first week of the playoffs.

Somerset plays at Cawood in Week 11 next year.

I thought that game was played on week 2?

Hilton wants to play Corbin. Jewell refuses to play Bell.

I like the comment about Mercer getting their players from other schools. Corbin would never do that right? Ask Whitley ex-coach Campbell about that.

Never said he was mad. Just thought it ironic that a Corbin person should mention another school getting players that did not grow up in their school district. Not limited to football either.
