I will defer to others who are more knowledgeable about the 8th Region than I am, but it is hard for me to believe that North Oldham, with Justin Powell, will only be the sixth best team in the region.

In my opinion they have Powell who could be the best player in the state and after that they have the young Roberts kid who is an excellent shooter. He needs to get stronger and get better on the defensive end. Other than that I don't know if they have enough to compete against the top teams. You have to have more than one elite player to be good. I could be wrong though. We shall see soon.

My buddy straight shooter! I looked back at all your post about Spencer County from last year and they were negative to the last one. I hadn't heard from you since they made the semifinals of the region. All jokes aside you do realize coach polls are full of politics and not voting for people in certain districts? Get out and watch some games and I'd love to hear your honest opinion. If you think Spencer County is the 6th best team in the region then you haven't been paying attention. Looking forward to many conversations this year. Spencer County going for fourth 20 win season in a row.

Look, I'll admit that there are probably a lot of coaches in the region that don't know what every team has coming back or how much someone has improved. Also, it is a testament to the strength of the 8th region in that these coaches honestly probably forgot about Spencer County because the region is so deep.

 

I will absolutely get out and watch games, but if I do that then that makes it impossible to do a pre-season ranking doesn't it? It is pre-season, it doesn't determine anything.

 

But at the same time, like I've said before, Spencer County has made 2 region tournaments in the last 21 years, and now you are in a 5 team district. I know from experience that no matter the competition, a 5 team district is a lot harder to win. so at the end of the season the only team that I care about is the one at the top of the ranking because that means they won the region. If it makes you feel better, we can put Spencer county 2nd in the region rankings every year for the last 21 years. Maybe you can have trophy made for that.

Joined this message board three years ago when the current juniors were 8th graders getting significant minutes on varsity. I saw that Spencer County was going to be good for the next five years. I was met with great resistance. I think that my assumptions have been correct. Anyway, I realize Spencer County has not been a regional player except for 2011. That was never my argument. They are now though and some people like yourself are in the dark if you think they are not. Enough about Spencer County let's talk about other teams.

Great point. Let's talk about the teams that will be a factor in the region outcome. As I said in my original post, the Oldham schools will have some battles I think. Those will be some fun games to attend.

I believe it will be in that order. Collins gets the nod over South Oldham because of their backcourt, athleticism, and ability to play defense. Any of those five can beat each other on a given night.

This last post by Cardrule1972 is spot on. I've been watching the 8th region for many years. I think any of these 5 teams can win the region, and any of these teams can beat each other on any given night. Collins clearly has an amazing back court with 2 D1 recruits, North has perhaps the best player in the state, South gets back just about everyone from last year, and Spencer keeps getting better, and better. All have a lot to prove, since last year Walton Verona was the best team in the region. I think the 8th will be the strongest its been in years, and perhaps among the top 2 or 3 regions in the state.

What does my old buddy in Gallatin have brewing this year?

Gallatin has had some great teams the past few years and it’s always hard to count Jon Jones out. They lost a lot last year but they also have a lot coming back. The 8th region is a very deep region this year but it’s hard for me to put Gallatin outside of the top 6. Believe there’s at least 6 or 7 teams that can beat anyone on any given night and potentially win the region.

Bad grammar

Gallatin lost two keys starters last year in Coomer and Bowen. They do return their All-Region point guard in Jarin Rassman who is one of the quickest players in the region with the ball. I have also heard they have gotten a couple transfers that will help immediately, and will be counting on some younger players to contribute as well. I believe that Gallatin is the favorite to win the All "A" but will have to prove themselves during the year to be considered a regional contender.

Your right Cosmo. Gallatin will have they’re chance to prove themselves very early opening the year at Holmes and then going to Collins for there 2nd game of the year.

Simon Kenton doesn’t lose any significant starters, last year beat South Oldham and North Oldham, lost to Oldham Co in OT. I’m surprised they aren’t talked about more on here.
