BluegrassPreps Class 3A Football Rankings (10/7) - Discussion

Class 3A

DeSales IS the 3A story line right now. The Colts trekked all the way to Paducah and promptly left little doubt that they are the team to beat in 3A by taking the wind out of the Blue Tornado. They now return to Jefferson County for their monster rivalry game against CAL, as they look to sure up their district title hopes and home field advantage. Eastern Kentucky might not have a true marquee game, but will boast three huge district showdowns. Ashland will look to hold off a very surprising East Carter squad. Russell will take on County rival Greenup County. Pike Central will look to extend their winning streak against Lawrence County.

1. DeSales at #8 Christian Academy of Louisville

2. Belfry -- OPEN

3. Ashland at East Carter

4. Bell County vs. Garrard County

5. Mercer County -- OPEN

6. Elizabethtown vs. 6A Meade County

7. Russell at Greenup County

8. Christian Academy of Louisville vs. #1 DeSales

9. Bardstown -- OPEN

10. Paducah Tilghman -- OPEN

I realize that Bell County is undefeated but I think Mercer has a bigger win (CAL) than anything the Bobcats lay on the table so far this year. :thumb:

The problem with Mercer is they also have a lopsided loss. Granted, that was an excellent team that beat them, but it is a running clock loss nonetheless.

Mercer's win over West Carter looks better each week and the Anderson County win has gotten a little prettier as well.

I get that but Belfry lost to a 1A team in Pikeville among their 2 losses. Pikeville is very good but they are a lower Classification. Mercer's loss was to a team above their class who is currently ranked #1 and may be the 3rd best team overall in the state.

The 3A rankings are the equivalent of working a ten piece puzzle but trying to use twelve pieces.

Running Clock loss in a game Mercer never stood a chance or a narrow loss in a rivalry game Belfry led throughout missing their super star RB? Let's not forget it was 37-6 at the Half in Boyle's favor.

For further measure, Belfry's win over LCA looms larger than the narrow win over CAL at the moment, especially with how LCA also defeated LexCath.

You might have an argument if Johnson Central hammers Belfry the way Mercer was defeated by Boyle, but by then the DeSales/Mercer game should do all the proving needed.

I think Mercer’s ranking fate may in large part rest on how badly Desales whips CAL or not. If CAL is competetive, Mercer looks pretty solid. If not, Mercer May look more like a PT.

Personally I think Russell will be the best team on the West Carter Schedule. I'm not totally sold on Mercer County.

I’m not sold on Bell Co, Mercer Co,Russell, Cal or PT I think Glasgow is better than all five of those teams but in the end the rankings don’t mean anything it’s who is left standing at the end.

I'd say bring Glasgow on,I'd like to see a Russell/Glasgow game. Like you said it's who's standing in December that means the most.

I would like to see that to but unless they meet in the state championship that’s probably unlikely but that would be one heck of a game.

I was surprised Glasgow wasn't in the top 10 somewhere. There 1 loss is to a 5A South Warren team on a bad snap and a last second miracle. Glasgow can run, pass and play defense. Some of those top 10 are 1 dimensional. I also think Bardstown, Etown, and Taylor Co. deserve to be in there. Once again only 10 spots for 13 teams.

It’s just a hard task to get 10 when there are 12 good teams. South Warren immediately losing to Bowling Green may have took some shine off the Glasgow performance, whether fair or not.

It's all about the matchups, Paducah Tilghman plays more into DeSales's hands last week. Who knows how we stand up to CAL this week ?? I do like the teams that more versatile, pass/run on offense and the same on D then a team thats has weakness somewhere. Teams like that tend to have answers.

I think DeSales is the clear #1 at this point. Then Mercer and Belfry. The rest is a toss up. Ive watched Bell Co. and they can play but they haven't played anyone close to a Mayfield, St.X, N Hardin, or South Warren. Their SOS is at the bottom and their RPI is at the top. I'm not a believer in this RPI just yet. If Season ended today why should a DeSales team that lost to ST.X and Lex Cath. have to travel to Bell Co for a regional finals? Why Should a Mercer Co that beat CAL, Glasgow that lost by 1 to SW, or a Bardstown that lost to Pikeville??? There's the real Questions. As of today Bell Co.hasn't beat anyone, and other than Harlan, doesn't even have a chance of losing but would play at home throughout the playoffs. That's what I'm trying to comprehend. I don't mean this as a slur to Bell Co. I'm just saying their level of competition hasn't been equal to or close to that of a lot of other teams. Their 6 opponents have a combined 9 wins.
