I feel sorry for a once proud Russellville program it seems like with the rise of cross town rival Logan Co has resulted in the downfall of Russellville this being said I seen Glasgow play Russellville and it was a running clock with two minutes left in the first quarter and I would guess Somerset probably has similar talent as Glasgow so the score of this game probably depends on how much Somerset’s coach wants to score.

I'm not blaming Somerset. When you win, its easy. Ride the rides, see the floats, kiss your homecoming date and see ya at practice on Monday.

 

When you get crushed in your first 5 games 221-43, its a different story. Russellville has played teams they have always played early on, but those teams aren't as impacted by declining numbers like Russellville is. And like TSlow said, Logan County's rise the last 2 years has hurt Russellville's numbers for sure. It would be nice if they could play some other 1A schools but they are all their district mates for the mass majority.

 

With the Jenkins football program closing, I guess I'm just sensitive to a small school getting crushed every week and not wanting them to go away. Not saying Russellville will, but you get the point.

They didn’t intentionally make that schedule. They’d love to play a slate full of teams their size and/or bigger schools that should play them, but those schools won’t.

 

Not to beat this horse, but six classes had made for scheduling hell for a lot of programs. Instead of being locked into 5-7 teams similar to you that HAD to play you, RVK and others are only left with 2-4 in most all cases across the state.

 

People are looking for wins. 2A-4A “County” school with little to no real football success aren’t playing “little ole’ 1A schools” like Russellville with their history, tradition, team speed (even their down years in talent are better than a lot of these rural county smaller schools best crops).

 

Prior to last year, how many straight Region titles/semis has RVK been too? Can’t exactly remember and don’t feel like looking up.

 

Many teams that should play them, won’t and that’s how you end up with them going to Somerset and others.

 

I can assure you this isn’t the schedule they wish they had.
