This can't continue to happen. Period.

Agreed. The good news is most of them are correctable, just have to play a little smarter.

I assume the -18 yards rushing is counting sacks against the rushing total. Why don't they count sacks against the passing total? It is a passing play, not a running play. Beechwood had positive rushing yards on the game. Not a lot. The Tigers may have had 50 yards rushing on the game.

That's above my pay grade....but you're right. Might be a software thing?

Pretty sure in high school and college, sacks go against rushing totals.

In the NFL, they go against passing totals.

For those who are saying why keep playing this game, here are some points to consider on why they keep playing.

First, anyone who walked up and down Beechwood Road before this game could see very clearly why this game will keep being played. There were pre-game parties happening at many homes with both blue and red themes. This game is huge in the community, even when both sides have a good idea on what is going to happen. Beechwood Road was like a major festival there were so many people at so many parties. This is beyond football. This is a big community event.

Two, despite the final score, Beechwood held their own for most of the first half. I saw Covington Catholic versus Ryle. Beechwood was clearly better against Covington Catholic in the first half than Ryle was. Should Ryle stop playing Covington Catholic?

Three, the only reason you would say Beechwood should not play Covington Catholic is if you think Beechwood will never beat Covington Catholic again? Does anyone believe that? Didn't Beechwood beat Covington Catholic in 2014 by 2 touchdowns? Beechwood won by 2 touchdowns in 2008. So every 5 years Beechwood wins one.

Four, every Beechwood fan in the stadium tonight had this thought. I would love to have last year's Beechwood team playing this year's Covington Catholic team. Most Beechwood fans will say that would be a win for Beechwood. Unfortunately, the years and rosters did not align that way.

Five, Covington Catholic once went 10 years without beating Beechwood. Should Covington Catholic have dropped the series? A five year winning streak by Covington Catholic is not a valid reason to drop this series.

Things to consider. I would like to hear one good reason why they should stop playing each other.

One more point, because I hear this concern often from people who ask why play this game. No injuries in this game for Beechwood.

Cogent, well thought out argument.

I don't want the series to end for so many reasons, but I will say those game stats are telling. As long as Eviston is at CovCath they will not compete with CovCath period.

Exactly. FCS schools play Alabama, oh my, why would they do that!?! Think of the possible injuries!?

Let’s be snowflakes somewhere else, this is football.

This game should always be played. It has been a great neighborhood rivalry for decades. There actually was a time the Tigers owned the Colonels...been awhile though. I see no reason they can’t again down the road. Congrats to CCH. Keep on winning!

Eviston at Cov Cath is a tough combination. Coach Rash was 2-1 against Eviston when he was at New Cath. The bigger talent pool at Cov Cath is certainly giving Eviston an edge. Cov Cath is down this year from the previous 3 years. They will be down a little more next year than they are this year. The Colonels have been blessed with some elite players the last 3 years, but I don't see those elite players in the coming classes. Unfortunately for Beechwood, next year will be tough for them also, so I don't see Beechwood doing much better next year. The year after next it is harder to say. Beechwood has a good sophomore class. They have some very good freshmen players, a couple of whom are already dressing varsity, which is unusual at Beechwood. In two years when this year's sophomores are seniors is a game Beechwood fans can look forward to versus Cov Cath.

I would say Eddie is certainly a much more seasoned coach than his days at NCC. Additionally, collectively their Sophomore class is their best class in the school. They may be better next year than this year.
