True Credit to Your School

I was just thinking about the performance of Brandon Brown from CCH this season, and more specifically what a top notch kid he is. He is top in his class academically, arguably the heart and soul of his football and basketball teams. But the kid is an absolute great young man. He is soft spoken, humble, and just a pleasure to be around. I am wondering about that type of kid at your schools. Who is that extra special kid for you?

All the kids involved in a program have something special to offer. In their own way each one is just important as the other. Some come to the front with their leadership abilities while others are a little more reserved but each individual has something to give. When they all come together as one that is what really makes it special.

Couldn't agree with you more...this was not intended to leave out anyone, or to necessarily claim one kid over the others...heck, tell us about all of them! I am just excited waiting for the big nights, and growing weary of all the hypothetical debates...simply put, I would love to learn more about so many great kids of whom I know very little about...and...a thread that offers some positive only insight into the boys we see from the bleachers. You are right....I guess I should start one for every great kid on our team...there are MANY...I was hoping some others would run with that....oh well :)

Nice comments 2short, I'm sure Brandon appreciates the accolades because as you say he is very soft spoken and until he starting running the football this year no one outside of CCH seemed to notice him and unfortunately by the looks of the all-star voting some of the coaches still don't seem to get it !!!! These are the type of kids that should be celebrated:ylsuper:

Without being a total Homer, but since I don't know about the grades and personalities of many other local high school kids I thought I'd bring up a few more Colonels that are doing unbelievable in the classroom and on the field. I believe all three of these guys are in the top 10 in their Senior class at CCH and are having tremendous years on the football field. Also very class kids who their school should be very proud of, it kind of makes you realize why CCH might be having such a great year. This class of Seniors is very special

Your post was a great post and I did not mean to take away from it.That was not my intention. I just posted what I felt takes place when a special kid like the one you mentioned comes together with all his teammates and all work together for the same cause. Your thoughts about the young man you mentioned were great to hear and I am sure very deserving. Sounds like the product of a great family background and proper coaching and a young man with a lot of respect for himself and others. To me, sports are more than just a game. The young men and women who play learn many things about life through their sporting events. We need more of this kind of post. Nice job!!:thumb:

Two outstanding young men from Williamsburg come to mind. Thomas Frazier, QB, and Aaron Root, FB\LB. Both have been a joy to watch over the past 4 years on the field, yet as good as they have been on the field, they are tremendous off the field as well. Not sure about Thomas' GPA but he was a top 5 senior. Aaron has a 3.29 overall. Both are true student atheletes, and just doggone good people to be around. Tremendous work ethic and some college coach is going to love have either of these young men.

Hunter Swaim from LCA. What a great young man even in adversity. Last year he missed some games with a stress fracture in his foot. Then this year he missed all but 4 games with a bruised kidney. Despite not being able to play this young man was at every practice and was roaming the sidelines at the games. When another athlete got hurt and had to sit out his advice to him was to show up at every practice and be at the game with his jersey on to support the team.

Hunter led by example and will be missed (he is a senior).

I thought all the posts on here were great and excellent. Outstanding thread and very classy. So it got me to thinking...

I called coach Williams at Male to ask about Beaumont (telling him what I was looking for) and instead of giving me info on Beaumont, he referred me to his son (at Iroquois) about a unique young man...after I heard it...I think this young man fits this thread:

Raydale Williams (no relation, BTW) at Iroquois is a young man who, as a Junior, made a lot of mistakes and only wound up being eligible to play half the season in 2005. A terrific RB and LB but had a short season because he couldnt keep his grades up. He routinely got into arguments with other players, was disrespectful at times and often characterized as a thug.

As a Senior, he was a different man. He was asked to play QB instead of RB and did so without questioning the coaches. He stepped up for a guy who had never played the position and guided the Raiders to a pretty good season. He was also the teams leading rusher as a QB and sometimes RB. He also played LB and CB on defense.

This young man kept a B average in his classes, played all 10 games despite a nasty injury to his back, was voted the team captain, and became, as Coach Williams put it "one of the most coachable kids I've ever been around".

Turns out, his life changed with the birth of his child and his priorities changed. He managed to be a good student, athlete and father in hopes of being successful to be a positive role model to his child. He never complained, was not a disciplinary problem and always showed good sportmanship after each game. After the 80-6 blowout loss to Male, he was one of the first to shake Coach Redman and Beaumont's hand after the game and never had a bad word to say about them or the game.

As Williams told me "in a matter of a year, he grew up and instantly became the heart and soul of this team. The players responded to him, they trusted him and followed him, like a general who had the respect of his army".

I thought this good fit the mode of this thread perfectly when I heard his story.

Good job to all the kids mentioned in this thread. Keep up the good work!!!
