It doesn’t even have to be high-end pasta. I load up on boxes of Creamette pasta varieties when they’re 49 cents apiece.

A agree, but I tend to prefer the bronze-cut pasta if it's an option. The more mass-produced pasta manufacturers use dies that are made out of titanium and/or coated with Teflon so the constant stream of pasta dough running through the die doesn't wear it out. Traditional pasta shaping dies were made of bronze, and would wear out a little faster. The trade-off is that the smoother coating of the titanium/Teflon makes a smoother surface on the pasta, and the more worn down and rough finish of the bronze dies leaves a slightly rougher surface on the pasta....and that holds the sauce better.

Local Kroger had a couple of bronze-cut varieties in their discount bin today for 50 cents apiece. We got one of each.

Wife makes killer chicken alfredo that MUST have fettuccine. However, I'm an equal opportunity pasta consumer.

Not just spaghetti, thin spaghetti!

I love a good spaghetti, particularly with angel hair pasta noodles. But if I had to choose between that and fettuccine I'd go have to go with fettuccine due to it pairing better with chicken, shrimp, steak etc. Spaghetti noodles are only paired with spaghetti sauce in my house.
