Angels at Reds (8/5 - 8/6)

Castillo with a great performance tonight. Career high with 13Ks. The 11th brought quite an applause with free pizza for everyone.

Thank you for mentioning that. I didn't get to watch tonight and came here for the recap. I had no idea he had such a good game and so many strikeouts. I would guess if he had a bad game or a lot of walks, that would have been mentioned though.

I know the Reds are trying but if have to get things worked out now for next year. Reds are behind 7 or 8 teams and you just are not catching and passing that many teams.

The reason why the Reds are still very much in the running. Is because those teams you mentioned in front of them are also below or barely above 500 teams. So it very much is possible, because it's not like those teams are any better than average too.

What it does mean is that the Reds will have to do what they haven't done all year. Which is go on a nice long winning streak. If they can do that, they are right there. Let's see if they can finally figure out how to play consistent.

You must go see Trout play. I loved that I got to see him in STL this summer.

Going to the game tonight. Which, most assuredly, means the Reds will lose. Cincinnati is 1-4 in Disco's last 5 starts, which doesn't help.

I'm not sure how the Angels got their first run, but he gave up a solo shot to Trout. It was an incredible pitching performance by him. Hopefully for another great one by him this weekend.

The Angels first run came via a solo HR from their 2nd baseman. I can't remember his name. By the way how about Trout dropping a routine fly ball. I about came out of my seat at home when that happened.

Just saw the forecast for this evening. Figures...

They'll get the game in tonight. There might be a delay at some point but they will get the game in.

The Reds also claimed RHP Kevin Gausman off waivers from the Braves. A corresponding roster move will be made once he reports. Look like he'll be wearing #46.

I like this move. He was a top prospect with the Orioles a few years back. If Derek Johnson can get him fixed I think this will be a good investment as he is controllable through 2020.

I missed that. Guess even the best have bonehead plays every once in a while.

Castillo down to the 4th best ERA in the Majors with 2.63 ERA after last night.

He is our Ace and done just what he is suppose to do. With that said, this game was one of his better games. Strike percentage seemed to be much better and no lack of concentration walks. He keeps that up and he may win 15 which is a very nice season.

I like it too. Reinforcements for a bullpen that is wearing down.

I can't comment on last night's game, because I still can't get the games on Dish yet. But, I will say this...with the movement he has on his changeup...a team with an aggressive hitting approach will make his strike percentage jump through the roof, because they can't hit it (in part due to the change of speed, the other part, due to the location). However, there have been a few times where it looks like the opposition has made a concerted effort to be patient, and that exact same pitch (if not swung at) will be a ball. Obviously, the strike percentage falls because of it.

I know he loves the changeup. But sometimes, I think he can fall in love with it too much. And with a patient hitter, it can make it look like he can't hit the strike zone. The key to Castillo's success (like a lot of pitchers) is to get ahead in the count.

Yeah, just don't like the prospect of getting wet and getting home late on a work day.

Maybe it's all coming in early? Lots of lightning in Rookwood area right now. I don't want this tonight, but I'm saving my prayers for a dry weekend.
