DragonFire
Lost in the shuffle seems to be this game. West Virginia completely blows up their BCS hopes by losing this one, possibly looking ahead to the Rutgers game. What this means now is that WVU is eliminated from the mix should UL win their next two, which of course they are favored to do. If WVU loses to Rutgers, that of course eliminates them as well. Their only shot is to win over Rutgers and have UL lose at least one, creating a three way tie, in which case it goes to the highest ranked team. IMO, UL is going to win the Big East. SomersetFootball
 USF is the upset bug of the Big East.
OldRaider22
Somewhere a whole bunch of UL fans just got really happy. I'm glad, I want to see the Cards play a top tier program this year, so we can finally put to rest all of this nonsense.
swamprat
I got to watch this with about 250 other Bull fans at the USF Hooters. What a crowd. What a game. Clearly the biggest win in the history of the program. Bigger than last year's home win over Louisville. The D that got lost last week in the second half against the Cards, found itself this week and shut down the vaunted Mountaineer offense. Slaton held to 43 yards. White only rushed for 17 yards on 15 carries. Let's party! :dancingpa

bugatti
This just in. The Big East is a solid football conference... I am not sure if this loss by WVU will be perceived in that fashion nationwide. The conference as a whole took a hit by limiting the chances for multiple BCS bids. The conference as a whole took a hit by limiting the chances for multiple BCS bids. I agree on the national level. But the truth is that only a year ago people wanted them out of the BCS. They have squashed that thought, and are now in a position to be let down for failing to get 2 teams in the BCS. Even the big time BEast fans had to think replacing Miami/VPI/BC would take longer than it has...
DragonFire
GT, I definitely agree with you on the Big East being good/great this year, but do you think it odd that mid-level teams beating top tier teams is an argument FOR the Big East, but AGAINST the SEC? If we were talking about the BEast as the best conference, sure. In this case we are talking about what was used against them, and it becoming a strength. In the long run, the top has to have the bottom half become respected opponents if they want to remain in the title picture every year. This year was a big shift in that direction... swamprat
The bottom line though, will be winning against the top half of the other major conferences. That's why I brought up the Auburn game next fall. Although today was a big hoist (Anybody catch Jim Leavitt tearing up?), USF is not ultimately counting on the Big East to lift the program. They will get the respect/recuits they desire by beating the likes of Auburn, Florida, NC State, and Miami, most of whom they play multilple times in the next 5 years. I'd love to see Louisville take on OSU or Notre Dame. Instead of North Carolina, how about Florida or LSU? How about Texas? Why not? Same goes for West Virginia. Is UC/OSU a regular home and home thing or something that has to be renewed? Pitt needs to get back on Notre Dame's schedule.
gametime
UC/OSU has not been an every year series. And UL has stated several times that the big boys are not interested. If USF were to beat Auburn next year, expect it to get a LOT tougher to schedule the way you want from that day forward. If this conference is going to grow, it will be keyed by all 8 teams being average at worst. There is NO WAY the SEC/Big 11 and so on help us get there... Nobody had ever heard of Miami until the first time they beat Oklahoma in Norman. Like Miami, in the early eighties, the teams of the Big East have a chance to shine against top level teams. If it costs future engagements, so be it. Once the reputation is established, the line up of cup cakes can be established and played year in and year out. I really don't want this year to end. Notice that?
