Goliath
It appears like the same problem is plagueing the Ashland system again this year just like the Flynn era. I recieved word that sophmores Daniel McDavid, Stephen Burns, Blake McLeod. and possibly Cody Plank have quit the basketball team already to focus on football. All 4 were on the jv team as freshmen most of the season which was rare under the Flynn era. This comes after former basketball players juniors Steven Limpach and Drew Sutphin quit the team. I think that some believed former players Luke Bonner and Kevin Burns might come out this year and neither did. As of right now the JV and Varsity teams combined roster has 14-16 players on it. This cant be a good start to the Buddy Biggs era with all these solid young players quiting. I sure hope the tomcats dont suffer alot of injuries this year... I have watched every one of the young men you named since they were in grade school, and all are excellent athletes with good basketball skills. This is sad news indeed for the maroon. Goliath
I know that McDavid and Burns had chose to not play before the season started so I wouldn't neccessarly call that quiting. Also, McDavid had an enlarged spleen so I doubt he would have been able to play anyway.

Momcat, you have some of your "facts" incorrect. The first 4 players you mentioned "McDavid, Burns, McLeod, and Plank did not play JV as freshmen. After the freshman season ended a couple of them (McDavid, Baldock, maybe a couple others) moved up and played 2 or 3 games with the JV. I know for a fact that McDavid and Burns had decided a LONG TIME AGO to focus on football and not play basketball. This is not news to anyone who knows anything at Ashland. It is my understanding that Limpach could not cut it during conditioning, and that Sutphin was just flat out cut from the team. In my opinion neither would have played any quality minutes this year, or next year for that matter. As for Bonner and Burns neither would have played a significant amount, especially after sitting out last season. Things are fine and everyone on the team is excited about the season, and that is all that matters. I have talked to some of the players and they are really enjoying Coach Biggs and they expect to have a championship year. :thumb: If you want to know anything else just ask me. Goliath
I have faith in coach Biggs and the Tomcats and I feel that they should be OK this season. He has alot of talent on this team and while the players that decided not to play may have made a difference, the Tomcats will still be a force to reckon with! Uncle Jed
These four were a big part of Ashland "winning" the Freshman AIT last year. I guess they will allways have those memories.

Daniel McDavid decided way before the season that he wasn't going to play. I don't really know why the rest don't want to play. I have been told that they want to concentrate on football which is fine. But the positions these kids play in football do not require them to be big bulky guys. They need to concentrate on their speed and quickness and basketball would really help them with this. I think these kids are making a mistake not playing but it's not my call it's theirs. As far as Luke Bonner his knee is bothering him, and he doesn't want to injure it more because he has a chance to play college football. Kevin Burns quit last year during the middle of the season and I don't think anyone really expected him to come out for the team this year. I know many players on the team personally and they all really like Coach Biggs! They say he is easy to talk to and and really cool off the court. On the court he pushes them every day in practice and stays on them. He tries to get the best out of his players like every good coach does. Everyone really enjoys playing for him. I don't know why these kids quit momcat, but I can assure you it wasn't because of Coach Biggs. Should be a good year in tomcat land this yr. if there are no injuries or illnesses. They should be fun to watch as well. :ylsuper:

TomcatChick41
The fact that you had to ask and that you recieved no answer, should tell you all you need to know. You see Wireman laid a nice little trap for me. There is no way I can win by predicting Ashland's record this year, especially without having seen them play. If I predict for example they go 24-5 and win the region everyone on here will call me crazy, and I will get raked over the coals everytime they lose, thats assuming they do lose atleast once this year. Ask me next week after I see them scrimmage. But I will go ahead and predict that we win the region, hows that to keep you interested? You want me to predict a clean sweep of Russell this year also?
