You can only schedule the teams that will schedule you. The list of teams to choose from is far more limited at BG than it is at most places. Just think, very few players on BG's roster can even remember a time when the Purples and F-S played. If you made A's in Math, it should become much more understandable.

What your saying is true. But if Father Ryan will play you Week 1 they will play you Week 10 which is much more advantageous for BG than Trinity in Week 10.

I believe they did this so the team is ready for the playoffs and so they have to put in as much work before fall break as they do after. The mentality after fall break (bye week) has always been different than before and I believe scheduling tough teams will get their mind right again. Not sure many people have noticed it but when I played for them I remember post fall break the mindset of the team changed because we were playing teams we should easily roll over. I understand the injury concerns but I love the tough scheduling as long as nobody gets hurt.

Now that we are a little closer to the start of the season I will comment on this.

 

This schedule is a nightmare for BG fans. Other than a lot of the tough games are at home. I'm still trying to figure this new BG team out. I think they have a chance to be solid, but man that's a tough schedule.

 

The season opener in the Rafferty's Bowl Father Ryan, they only won two games last season I think. I know they were playing some really tough teams, but maybe they aren't as good as their name would suggest.

 

The schedule is loaded. And I am all about having a hard schedule, but I also don't want to beat the team to death the whole season either. Than you end up with a mediocre record, a beat up team and maybe a confidence problem.

 

I was at the Warren Central (Indianapolis) game last year. Just seemed like we never recovered at that one. Up until that game BG really surprised me how well they did in the first part of the season. So maybe they will surprise me this year too.

Kinda off-topic, but does anyone know why Franklin-Simpson and BG no longer play? I have heard from both sides that its "well FS doesn't want to play BG" and vice versa, but I feel like there is more to the story than that. Is there a reason in the first place? I wasn't living in Franklin the last time FS-BG played so I don't know. Also, a question for BG fans, would you rather play FS than Warren Central(IN) or FS?

At the time that FS discontinued the series, it was the longest yearly contest for BGHS as the teams had played each other for decades. If memory serves me correct, they have not played since 2010. I can promise you that BGHS had no intention to dropping a huge revenue game from their schedule. In the decade since FS dropped the game, they also discontinued playing BG in JV, FR, and JR High Football. At the time that the game was discontinued, FS had not won in the series since 1999 and a few of the games had not been competitive. I know that both teams were looking for scrimmages a couple of years ago, BG reached out, and FS declined to play a scrimmage as well.....Been around HS football a long time, when FS and BG were good, no HS environment was better than when those two played.

That's cool. I have heard great stories from FS-BG games back in the day and its disappointing that they don't play anymore. I would love to see FS-BG back playing each other, especially since FS has really increased its level of play by winning and going to State Championship games since the series ended.
