Covington Catholic 53 Cooper 47

O'Hara, Pouncey, and a 3rd guy.

Pouncey was clearly in the Cooper camp ALL NIGHT. It was bad how one sided the calls were from his whistle. I spoke to fans and parents from both camps tonight and they all agreed. And that's unfortunate!

It was a great game and great environment!

Interesting and I’m a little surprised. Did he blow some calls, never make any calls against Cooper? What was your major issue? James is one of the BEST officials in the entire state and has been recognized for it and he’s clearly the best official in the 9th as well as refs college games. I’ve watched him ref for over 20 years and while all refs miss a call or two I’ve never known him to be “in” someone’s camp.

CCH had trouble getting the ball fed to the post in the first half. Cooper fronted and fought for position. Many times Cooper defenders were a step quicker to beating the CCH cutter to the block and if the Cooper defender wasn’t there first, the pass would be a bit late and Cooper was able to deflect the entry pass. In the 2nd half CCH made adjustments, swang the ball a little more and big guys cutting to the block were able to get better position with Cooper still fronting. I’d also think a bit of fatigue set in on Coopers side from battling bigger guys for position on the block all night. Perhaps that made those entry passes a little easier to get through. Cooper gambled with the fronting and if the pass got over or through the defender there was no backside help and it was an easy lay up for Thelen, Fleek, or Greene.

Very physical game from two teams that battle.

Both teams are very similar defensively maybe a slight edge to Cooper but CCH has the edge offensively. Cov Caths size and the point guard Disken gives them the edge. Someone said in an earlier post Cooper wins 8 out of 10 im not sure CCH wins 7 out of 10. The two best in the 9th and it was a great battle.

To be 100% clear, someone said that (and others agreed) in the prediction thread -- I 100% disagree with it. I also don't care because they won't play 10x, they will play 2x, and I think CovCath wins both of those.

Good post and I agree it doesn’t matter because they won’t play 10X, they will play twice. I just disagree that CCH will win the next meeting. I can’t imagine Cooper having another qtr like they had in the 3rd last night and I believe Walters will find his rhythm that he had before missing the last nearly three weeks. However, that is why they play the game. Looking for another epic 9th regional and I hope these two are one the court at the end which is what nearly all of NKY wants on a neutral court, and no that’s not an excuse for last night as CCH was the better team.

Congrats to my Colonels. This is one scrappy team.

Well, if you recall they also had a very bad 3rd quarter against University Heights that more than likely cost them that game.

Michael Spencer has such great leadership and composure on the court, along with athleticism and skills. A rare find in high school and in life.

I was one of the ones thinking Cooper would win. Last night was only my third time watching CCH this year but from a small sample size perspective, they definitely are trending upwards. Different team that I saw than the one that showed up to play Highlands. Electric atmosphere and one of the best games I witnessed all year...

My plan was to be there until I found out there would be no walk up ticket sales. How was the public made aware of the pre ticket sales ?

My nephew is a junior at CCH...he got me my ticket. I have heard so many people say that this game should have been played at BB&T Arena @ NKU. Maybe not a sellout but it could have held a lot more than CCH gym could handle..but I understand the home court advantage aspect

Cooper High School announced they had 200 tickets to sell at school lunch time. Those sold out in 2 days. After that, people drove to CCH to buy tickets.

I think that assessment is wrong. There are 20 teams in the 9th region fans of 18 other teams don’t want that in the region final.
