Really amazing his durability. St.X lost two QB’s during season and this kid just keeps taking a beating and winning.

Garrett Dennis in his last 3 games (St. X, Trinity, and Scott Co.)

 

93 carries, 507 yards, 5.45 yards per carry, 7 rushing TDs

36 completions, 53 attempts, 68% completions, 460 yards, 4 passing TDs

 

That's as dominant an offensive performance from a single player as I can remember against 3 of the top defenses in the state.

That makes more sense. I had originally guessed around 180. I know some schools don’t really update their height/weight on things to the general public.

At one time Male could only take kids from the traditional middle schools. At least so I thought, because that was the demise of Bobby Redmond. Is that still true? Seems like a lot of exceptional athletes from just a few schools, unless there are more than I thought. Does anyone know?

Male has had a waiting list and in the past was able to pull kids from outside the 3 traditional middle schools. The last few years there haven't been any players on the football team not from JCTMS or Barret or Johnson. Not too sure about other sports. So while other teams like the Privates and Manual (district magnet) have the ability to get kids in from the JCPS traditional magnet schools, Male can't pull kids from outside. Maybe somebody closer to the program knows can chime in. My close connection graduated and I'm not too sure about the current makeup.

Male must take every kid that wants to come from JCTMS, Barret, and Johnson before they can take any other kid. If they have extra space after taking all applicants from those schools, spots are offered to applicants randomly by the district. I'm not aware of any player on the team the last few years that was not from JCTMS, Barret, or Johnson.

Perfectly legal I'm sure, and requires some advance thought I guess. No, there is no question this guy does a great job.

In my day there were districts, but Male enjoyed an all county advantage because it offered ROTC. You just had to say that is why you wanted to go there.

Many JCPS offer ROTC now. In fact Seneca and Fern Creek are national programs with major awards. JCPS enrollment stays in the news. To get in to Male you have to get your kid in the Traditional Magnet in elementary or middle school before 8th grade. I could see families wanting their kid going to a certain high school but you pretty much have to go to the right elementary for that to happen.

My nephew goes to Male and when he was first starting elementary his parents applied for Traditional. I know parents in Catholic schools that tried to get in traditional program but didn’t get in, so went private school route. I’m guessing it’s a lottery to get in traditional.

You are correct. It is a lottery system. If you don't get in the first time you apply, you can apply again the next year.
