Cooper 75 St. Henry 60

Featured Replies

I won't be able to give a thorough assessment of the game because I was chatting most of the time, but Cooper came out pretty flat, and I believe that early on St. Henry was up by as much as 9 at 20-11.

The Crusaders are a decent team and nothing to sneeze at and made the Jags earn this win for sure, and kept it close mostly throughout. I believe that it was all knotted up at half at 34, and again tied at 51 before Cooper began to take over.

After slacking early, the Jags did begin to show more consistency and strength in their game, and being the team most might expect them to be, but early on I'll have to admit that I had my doubts making me think that this region is all CovCath and everyone else. I'm back to believing that the Jags are tough and will only improve.

I've no clue of final stats, but there was much to be impressed by by everyone on the court from both teams. I don't want to leave out anyone who contributed but Deere, Spencer, Walters, Houston, and Hampton all showed strength in their game as did St Henry's Westerbesck, Shea, Bessler, Vieth, and Becker. Others at the game might be able to give better details about each player's game

The final score is no good indicator of what a decently played game this was, and it was a real good one for sure to kick off the new B-Ball season in the 9th.

Seems like Coach Sullivan does a great job with adjustments at halftime. It almost like watching a boxer that knows hes better than his opponent and takes the first few rounds to feel them out. Pummels them for the rest of the fight.

Agreed on adjustments.

2nd quarter Cooper played more poised and focused to knot things up going into halftime, then continued their pursuit throughout the 2nd half.

Still was very impressed by how St. Henry hung tough throughout. They did have a chance to cut it to 4 with about 4 minutes remaining, but got a little carried away with the ball and paid dearly as Cooper cashed in giving them an 8 point lead and never looked back.

Not sure what he ended up with but St Henry's #3 Junior Connor Shea sure can light it up from long range. He's a little guy that looks younger than a Junior, but at one point he was nailing them left and right. Don't let this kid fool you...he has a dead eye for connecting with the basket.

Also was really impressed with the hustle of Sr. guard #11 Alex Westerbeck, and sophomore #22 Jude Bessler looks and plays with the strength of someone older and more mature than his age.

#12 curly red headed sophomore Wyatt Vieth also has a lot of good hustle in him and plays with the experience and poise of someone older.

I was also very impressed by how much Spencer for Cooper has improved. Dude has developed his game, is explosive, and has a nice assortment of skill sets while also showing decent leadership qualities for the team. He's no longer in the shadows by any stretch, and I can just imagine him becoming even more of a beast as the season progresses.

Deere was also showing a ton of takeover mentality with his game, and Walters was showing that he's ready too to be a big time leader for the team. Ty Houston is also a very strong player and I expect big things for him this season too.

Sorry for all of the separate chunks of details, but I'm just posting them while I sit here reflecting on tonight's game.

OK..it's midnight and I'm gonna turn into a pumpkin if I don't hit the hay. Goodnight and I hope to resume this conversation in the morning.

Peace Out.

Is Connor Shea related to Brian Shea who played at NKU?

He has an Uncle named Brian Shea, so could be.

I have seen these guys play, and agree. Very young team. Only 2 seniors. Bessler and Vieth are Sophs. Glad Bessler is getting the recognition. Connor Shea has a Soph brother, Cory Shea. Also a player.

Did Kevin Centers play?

How did the Jags JV do?

Taylor Curtis, DJ, Muniz, Zach Jennings?

St Henry JV won by 1 pt.

Centers didnt do much, picked up a technical and sat most of the second half. Not sure about the others.

@B-Ball-fan summed it up pretty well. Crusaders looked improved. Vieth and Becker picked up 2 early fouls for each and sat a lot of the first half. Bessler was active and played a nice game, Westerbeck was more undercontrol and was hitting from the outside. Shea played a steady game and found his range as the game went on. I was disappointed in the Crusaders defense. Continuously left shooters open (Walters, Deere and Houston), and took some questionable shots late in the game. I wish St.Henry would of put a little more pressure on the ball out top as Cooper was starting their offense way to low.

For Cooper, Walters played a heck of a game. Kid was money from the outside and attacked the basket when available. Houston was active and battled on the boards and won a lot of 50-50 balls. Deere hit numerous open 3 pointers in the first half. Nice addition to the Jaguars. Congratulations to Cooper on the opening night win.

Is Connor Shea related to Brian Shea who played at NKU?

Hoops5 is correct, Connor is Brian (from NKU)'s nephew. He will grow at some point, one would think.

Did the other sophomore, Ravenscraft, play last night?

I wish St.Henry would of put a little more pressure on the ball out top

Is that an area where having Kaiser would have helped?
