You are talking about two well established small school programs with a history of success and two larger schools without a real history of success.

 

Dayton has to compete with a plethora of very successful larger programs (Highlands) as well as schools like Newport Central Catholic. Let alone it is a demographic of less and less families with high school age kids moving into the area and more and more young families with either young children or no kids at all.

 

And with the success Campbell County is having along with their increasing academic scores, the standouts have choices

I would think a Dayton is a job where the right fit could really succeed. A lot of kids in NKY that I’m sure would love to see varsity minutes, if you can get a few second and third stringers from other districts over you could become competitive in a hurry. 1A football requires a lot fewer kids to compete.

 

I disagree, Hazard and Williamsburg both routinely pull kids from their respective larger County schools over football. You aren't going to pull a star from a big school, but a kid that might be third string at a school like Highlands might be interested in being a starter on the smaller level. In 1A ball if you can get 35 kids that are decent football players you can be very competitive. My guess is what Dayton has now with the addition of 10-12 kids could completely flip the program.

 

Does Hazard and Williamsburg literally have 4 other schools within a 5 minute drive from them like Dayton does? Dayton, Bellevue, NCC, Newport, Highlands are literally almost a 5 minute drive from anyone school to the next. Then Brossart not to much further away and then Campbell County. Your scenario is great and all, but just doesn't happen.

Back to the question at hand...any names being thrown out? I have heard Coach Hamblin who was an assistant this year. I wonder if an ex-Devil like Dustin Trimnell who is an assistant coach @NCC or Jason Schwartz would be?

Haven't heard any names tossed around, but I do wonder if this is a job that requires a teacher in the building or a para that's well known in the community? I think Dayton requires head coaches to be teachers, maybe someone could verify that?

 

This is going to be a tough job to fill, and whoever comes in has to know that it'll take a lot of patience.

Trying to be delicate...no parent is going to allow their kid to transfer to a school who’s academic numbers and graduation rates are lower to play football.

 

Things have actually improved with those things a lot there compared to how they used to be. The biggest challenge is numbers and enrollment, which has gradually declined over more recent years.

I haven’t heard of any names, but believe that someone familiar with the school and program is most ideal if possible.

Personally as an Alum I think opposite. They need a new face to turn the program upside down. Maybe a guy with a Dayton connection but I think it needs to be someone who has been removed from Dayton for a while to be able to come in as fairly unknown by the families and kids to set a new tone for the program. Low numbers have killed the Greendevils the last few years, but there are many good athletes and great kids in the halls currently that just haven’t came out for HS football the last few years. A lot of kids who played a lot of youth football and had some success there. I think whoever the new coach is has to address the numbers issue first, because this past season and the trend the last few years has them borderline not fielding a team. I also hope they move fast to fill the position , now that everyone’s seasons are over the sooner the better IMO to start building those relationships with the kids and get them excited to get back on the field.

Heard they were doing interviews on the 12/27, so hopefully there is a new coach in place when they return from Christmas break. Also heard there were over a dozen applications. Hopefully they can bring in a great hire!
