Wintry Precipitation Possible Wednesday night into Thursday

Not sure if it's cleaned up now but 275 westbound was closed at Taylor Mill. The overpass of Madison is known to freeze up quickly in this kinda of weather. Literally watched car after car slide into one another a few years ago.

My Facebook feed is filling up with people reporting wrecks.

News in Lexington reported 60 wrecks between the hours of 4-10:00. Another 6 wrecks had people injured.

I have part of a tree/branch down on the back of my house. Not sure how big just yet.

I just woke up to something similar...the neighbor across the street has a 60' tall scarlet oak that lost a couple of major limbs. I heard one big crack that woke me up, and then I heard the splitting and a crash with glass breaking. My next door neighbor had their car parked across the street from mine and is going to have an insurance call to make in the morning. I went out to see what was going on, but it doesn't appear that it woke anyone else up.

Oaks are really susceptible to ice storms at this time of year because they're so late to lose their leaves, and the wet/icy leaves an exponentially add to the amount if weight that the ice load puts on the branches.

There is another chance for some more wintry precipitation this afternoon. This may happen around rush hour. Maybe just a dusting of snow. Temps may fall below freezing some roads may become slick later tonight.

I ventured out my front door and was just off my icy porch when I got the text that my school had cancelled. I could hear what sounded like small explosions as trees in the nearby woods snapped. The wind was blowing enough that it made me nervous being out. I came back in and will survey the damage out back later.

That's how it was back in 2009 when we had the ice storm here in Richmond. I've seen outlooks that say this upcoming winter may compare to that winter or to those that are similar.

Well it looks like it going to be an El Nino winter. It still remains to be seen how strong the El Nino will be. Also what type still is to be determined. By that I mean is the El Nino going to be off the coast of South America or in the central Pacific. So our upcoming winter could be very interesting.

I soooo hate winter. I used to not mind it until the 2009 ice storm. This one compounds it.

I blame @Run To State, as he loves winter. :lol2:

I'm with ya. It's all fun and games until you become an adult with responsibilities and jobs that don't care about road conditions, etc. I don't mind the cold, but the precipitation can just stay away.

I love it! It was a pretty drive this morning complete with obstacle course. :D
