November 11, 20187 yr Watching this team against the Chiefs and Saints. You would have to wonder how in the world have they won 5 games and was a minute away from beating the Steelers. The offense isnt doint much, but this defense is literally horrible and on pace to be the worst defense in NFL history. Either Pauly G was better than we thought and made some of our defensive players look better than they really are. Because the defense was suppose to be the strength this year. Or the new defensive coordinator Teryl Austin is flat out horrible. Whatever scheme he uses in the secondary has been flat out horrible all year and leaves guys wide open. The defense is as bad now as the offense was to start last season. Marvin may like him but it's a bad fit, and he needs to fire him tonight. Promote Jim Haslett to DC to finish out the year or shoot Marvin needs to take over the defense himself. If he is going to go out. Go out doing what got you this job in the first place. What sucks even with the lost today. The Bengals are still very much in wild card contention but this defense is just so bad.
November 11, 20187 yr This defense has no linebackers and no safeties. Jesse Bates is rated as a top 5 safety in the NFL this season. Other than that I agree. However this is basically the same defense as last year, and they werent anywhere near this bad, besides for 2 games at the end of the year last year. The scheme for this new DC is horrible.

No Burfict, although he has been average at best when he has played. No Nick Vigil. No Dennard. Those injuries make a difference. At this point, regardless of the injuries, if the Bengals truly want to get into the playoffs I think they need to fire Austin and Marvin should take over as defensive coordinator. I think Austin has lost the players.
