We’re trying to improve our association and increase school participation. For example, in 4A East, all schools have joined except two.

We are tying in our membership with the spring FCA Clinic, hosted by UK. All members will be admitted free.

So without ALL of the of the coaches as members and without ALL of the coaches voting, we still run the risk of this award not getting a fair and balanced vote, just like the Mr. Football Award.

The Señor Football Award?

The KFCA Big Baller Award?

The Big Kentucky Football Dude?

Mr. Football should be decided by the coaches not the AP.

From a player's perspective, I would think it would be more meaningful to have coaches identify you as the top player in the state than sports writers. Coaches presumably know more about football.

Squabbling and smoke-and-mirror diplomacy amongst coaches is just as rampant if not more rampant than journalists. Coaches have votes for Mr. and Miss Basketball. Knowing more about the sport doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things.

No doubt, you are correct.

How is this different from all the different rankings for teams. There are multiple rankings out there and rarely do they agree 100 percent. In a lot of instances I think you may be seeing the same kid receive both awards.

What makes this different is that this award will be recognized during the games of state finals. There are multiple rankings and multiple awards but KHSAA doesn’t recognize the Courier Journal, Herald Leader or BGP Players of the Year during the state finals. They will recognize this unnamed award so to me it appears as if there is some kind of movement to have one award become more prestigious than the other.

And on top of that, let's be honest. Outside of a team's opponents, most coaches have not seen the remaining 95% of the state play. I like to think most have better things to do with their lives than scurry the internet for youtube footage.

So we're 2 for 2 with the KFCA and the AP Mr. Football awards going to the same player.

Will we continue seeing both of these awards coming out each year - especially if they continue trending strongly towards going to the same player?
