Ohio State draws criticism for tweet

Featured Replies

I saw the original tweet (came through on a Facebook post) yesterday, and never gave it a second thought. Made the obvious (at least to me) connection to Saturday's game and moved on.

Ohio State Buckeyes draw criticism for message of 'silence' tweet

Missing in the article is the picture that was shown in my Facebook. With it, it looks like every other post/tweet they've sent out in the past getting you hyped for the next game. But, I guess other people delved further into what they believe are hidden meanings.

"Even if this is about a game, in light of the domestic violence & sexual assault scandals at OSU, this is inappropriate," tweeted Brenda Tracy, an advocate and public speaker who travels the country speaking to football programs about sexual assault issues. "Messaging matters."

And for the love of Mike, can a mod fix my spelling mistake in the thread title? Thanks!

People are really butt hurt about that? I knew what they meant the second I saw the message with out the pic in the article.

I think it was a really poor choice of words for a "hype post" when you consider the fact that Ohio State's latest scandal was surrounding the coaching administrations choice not to say or do anything when they found out about a domestic violence situation in one of their staffers' homes. I'd have said the same if it was Penn State posting the same thing within a month or so of finding out the Joe Pa knew about accusations against Jerry Sandusky and chose not to do what was necessary to get to the bottom of things.

I certainly would hope this wasn't a situation where someone in their social media department was trying to do this as an attempt to be "witty", but regardless, I still think it shows a lack of foresight.

Again I just don't see it. They said it was the same thing they posted 2 years ago going into Happy Valley. Coupled with the message "silence the white noise" and that is has the opponent and game time in the pic it seems obvious to me what they meant. I guess I'm just not one to look for hidden meanings or reasons to get offended. Sometimes a message is exactly what it was meant to be.

People are reaching big time if they are bent out of shape about that... JMO.

But was the current scandal going on two years ago?

PR rule #1 is know the current context you are advertising in.

Agreed. If anything I'd say it speaks to their ignorance about tOSU football and it's rivalry with Penn State football.

Not going to rehash my thoughts on this whole situation. But this is just what Ohio State is going to have to deal with whether us fans like it or not. People are going to take meaningless stuff like this and turn it into something it’s not. Just the way it’s going to be.

But was the current scandal going on two years ago?

I'm really not sure how to answer this.

It's reaching big time
