tdyballgame
What is the rule if a kid that hasn't played any Varsity action but some limited JV wants to transfer schools. Lets say he goes to a private school and wants to transfer to a public school not in his district. Are there any penalties or waiting periods? Lets say that he gets cut from JV and hasn't played any level other than Freshman, does he have to sit out or can he play right away next year as a Junior? Are there different rules from private to public, public to private, private to private, or public to public? Anyone?
All Tell
As long as he/she hasn't played varsity they can transfer with no loss of eligibility. That rule is universal.
cshs81
Additionally, the issue of private and public never factors in.

kissinger
As long as he/she hasn't played varsity they can transfer with no loss of eligibility. That rule is universal. FOR NOW! That is the crux of the argument against proposal 2 that the schools just passed.

cometscoach
Keep in mind however that the must not have played varsity in any sport. So a player that pinch ran in a varsity baseball game as a freshman would have to sit out a year in all sports if he/she transferred their sophomore year

All Tell
Then they can change with no loss of eligibility. The transfer rules don't take effect until a student is in 9th grade.

Long Time Warrior
Is it different for different sports???? In football once your in the 9th grade then you are a varsity player no matter if you get on the field or not. From the time you leave 8th grade you then have 4 years of playing time. Some with court juctions have gotton 1 more. If you transfer after leaving 8th grade doesn't the tranfer rule apply? Or is it just in football? If you play FROSH football at school A then go to School B, you are eligible immediately since you never played a varsity sport at School A. You are correct on the rule regarding 4 years of eligibility from the time you are promoted from the 8th grade.
