BCS Poll - 10/29/2006

If the winner of the WVU / UL game goes undefeated, they will meet the winner of the OSU/Um game.

Kirk Herbstreit agrees with you.....just stated the exact same thing on ESPN

So anyone care to tell me how Cal jumps two spots (to #3!!?!) in the computer rankings after a 1 touchdown win over 4-5 Washington?

I'm REALLY not getting these computer rankings for Cal.

If Rutgers goes undefeated, they will still get screwed by the system. Same may be said for WVU and UL.

That's not necessarily true. If Rutgers goes undefeated, then by the end of the season their points accrued will feature wins over two BCS top-ten (or very close to top ten) teams. There is a possibility that an unbeaten Big East team may get hosed, but there are very few one-loss teams that could pull it off... there will NOT be a Michigan-OSU rematch in the National Title game.

The Big East will be very interesting in these next few weeks to see how everythig plays out. WVU, UL and Rutgers all play one another and Pitt could come in and also be a spoiler for one or more of them. I really think the Title game should probably be The Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Michigan regardless of who wins that game in a few weeks. I really believe that they are the best two teams in the country. Should that game be a blowout by one or the other (and I think that it will be very close) then I believe that Auburn or Florida providing that they win out and win the SEC title game could very well slip in there vs. Ohio St. or Mich.. I am not trying to slam the Big East, UL or WVU at all, just the way I think things will play out.

In my opinion, only if it is Rutgers....Florida's SOS is done now, and you see where they are, barely ahead of Louisville. Both Louisville and West Virginia, are getting ready to see major upgrades in their SOS, which will eliminate all of the 1 loss teams, except maybe USC, IMO.

IMO, UL's SOS has yet to even begin. Florida plays in the best conference in football, and UL has not beaten a good team yet. Miami doesn't count, they are in the toilet.

Louisville

Kentucky (4-4)

Temple (1-8)

Miami (5-3) #17 at the time, unranked by week 4

Kansas State (5-4)

MTSU (5-3) in a very weak conference

Cincinnati (5-4) by less than a TD

Syracuse (3-6) after trailing for portion of the game

28-32 overall record

Florida

Southern Miss (4-4)

Central Florida (2-6)

Tennessee (7-1) #13 at the time of win, currently #8

Kentucky (4-4)

Alabama (6-3)

LSU (6-2) #9 at the time of win, currently #13

Auburn (8-1) #11 at the time of win, currently #6

Georgia (6-3)

53-24 overall team records

I think 1 loss Florida should be ahead of Louisville at this point without question.

Now it is true that UL plays #4 and #15 still, but at this point, UL's SOS is not what the #5 team should have.

Right but they have done all they can, by beating who is in front of them. If they continue to do so, then they will have done what was put in front of them, and their SOS will be much closer to FLA's at that time. Not the same, but close enough to offset with the loss.

And God said, "Behold, they gripe and complain about the selection of champions. I shall send to them the BCS, which will be a scourge on the face of competetive sport. They shall be even more confounded the wretched refuse of Babel."

The problem with this logic is that you're using two other teams (WVU and Rutgers) as your basis for improving their SOS when none of the 3 have proven anything this season other than they're better than bad teams (including my beloved UK). IMO you cannot reward teams for great records when they do not have to be tested on a weekly basis.

I'd put OSU, Mich, Texas, USC, Florida, Auburn, and LSU in front of the 3 Big East schools simply because they've proven themselves.

I agree with mostly everything you said, but I wouldn't put Texas, USC, or LSU in front of atleast UL and West Virginia. I would have them in front of rutgers though...

You cannot separate WVU and UL from Rutgers. They've achieved the same with playing essentially the same schedule.

Texas barely squeezes by Texas Tech, USC is beaten by lowly Oregon State.

What have either of those teams proven this year to lead a person to believe they are better than WVU & UofL, and maybe even Rutgers?

Here here. This is part of the reason for my deep, deep hatred for the BCS system. There should be no penalty for a team doing EVERYTHING that has been asked of them (namely, winning every game on their schedule). The only real "proof" that the 1-loss teams actually offer is that they are NOT capable of winning every game.

UT has played Ohio State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech. I'm not sure if even Miami is better than any of those 4. No one on WVU's schedule even comes close.

USC has played Arkansas,Nebraska, and Washington. Again, 3 teams that none of the 3 Big East schools have matched up with on a comparable basis.

IMO a team cannot be rewarded when they have one tough team to play.

That's just me.

With all due respect, you're simply advocating weak scheduling. You cannot penalize teams for stepping up and playing tough teams. That would cheapen the championship.

I see what you mean, but I just seperate because IMO they are better than Rutgers...
