Other. 36 points okay but no running clock until halftime. Having 2 1/2 to 3 quarters consist of around 35 plays is silly. How do reserves and less skilled teams improve without actual game time.

When did KHSAA start doing the running clock at 36 points? Does anyone know?

2014 or 2015.

I think the running clock is good— but if the game changes and the losing team gets within 14 then the clock should go back to normal..

Running clock after 35.., 36 forces another score or two-point conversion...eliminate everyone makes playoffs too- would love to see stats on # of running clocks in 1st round playoff games

I wanna say 2013 or 14.

Junior varsity games.

I'd change it to 35 points and leave everything else the way it is.

This. 36 points is weird to me. It should be 35 points.

I like the idea of a 42 point running clock margin in the first half and a 35 point margin in the second half, and also going back to normal timing if the margin closes to within 14.

A few years ago I'd bet the farm Warren Central wished there had been a provision for going back to normal time when the score closed the gap. the Birds put a running clock up in the second quarter and held on to win 71-69.

42 points. Only running in the second half.

I like 42 points as the threshold. Or even down to 40. I always thought 35 was too low.

Holding off till second half seems OK. But you are at 42 as the threshold, first half running should be somewhat rare.

As for going back to normal clock if a certain differential is reached - not really feeling that one. The thing with running clock is that you are basically declaring the game over. And if coaches start pulling starters and seniors then the whole dynamic changes from a varsity game to something different. The team with the lead may pull their starters and the team behind may keep theirs in. Maybe the score does tighten-up some but if a running clock starts then it should continue to run.

Running clock at 36 in 2013

Before 2013 it was 45.

Per KHSAA web site 8/12/13 reminder about rule change for running clock

Running clock at 35 whenever it happens, regardless if gap closes or not.....quick and painless
