Man after the 2009 incident, in which he was arrested, there's no chance a coach with even the slightest hint of integrity doesn't can him on the spot when he hears about the 2015 incident. You can keep defending Urban all you want, but it's a really bad look to keep doing so with such vigor.

I think we're are looking at this rationally. Clearly Urban felt like he had to help out Zach Smith because of his grandfather. That loyalty ultimately is what caused this mess. But when the police are conducting an investigation and find no evidence to press charges in 2015 are Urban and Gene under an obligation to find proof themselves? I think its easy to say if you were in Urban's shoes you would have handled it differently. Should Urban have looked into it more, maybe so. But I don't think waiting for law enforcement to do their job before acting is an offense worth firing over with regards to Urban.

A felony charge requires a felony domestic violence charge requires a suspect with a prior conviction or a pregnant victim. The Delaware County prosecutor said there was enough evidence for a criminal charge, just not a felony.

He chose to believe the abuser AND POLICE. That’s not enabling man.

Urban should have fired Zach Smith no doubt about it. He didn’t because he believed in his mentor. He was indebted to him and felt he wouldn’t be doing his job if he didn’t give Zach the benefit of the doubt. Let the police do their job. Wait for evidence to surface from the police and go from there. The police didn’t file charges, Courtney didn’t file charges, there were no legal grounds to fire him. There is no doubt Urban have Zach special treatment because of Bruce. That’s 100% clear. If it had been anyone else he would have been fired. But without anything from the legal system I’m not sure Urban felt he had grounds to act because his vision was clouded by Bruce. He gave Zach opportunity after opportunity. Urban helped Zach out on a personal level several times from marriage counseling to requesting Zach go to rehab. Yet he and Gene still maintain that if they had evidence of DV or if an arrest was made he would have been fired. You don’t have to believe Urban. But don’t make it seem like I’m a bad person because I do.

I respectfully disagree. I think it’s incredibly easy to say these things online but much more difficult to actually apply these actions when you’re dealing with people you actually have a relationship with. That’s why Urban gets paid to make these decisions. But just because he gets paid to make these decisions doesn’t make them any easier.

You'd have to ask the Powell police department that. The prosecutor said there was enough evidence to file charges, just not felony charges. The Powell police department will not release their report and changed it to being not charged 3 years later. Delaware prosecutor O'brien "“I don’t know why there wasn’t a criminal charge” in 2015, O’Brien said. “I only know why there was no felony criminal charge.”

 

Also "Chief Vest has said his officers met with officials from the Delaware County prosecutors office, which ruled there was insufficient evidence to file felony charges.

 

The city maintains the suspect "was investigated and believed to have committed an offense, but was not charged/arrested," according to Megan Canavan, city spokeswoman.
