Foods that I just don't understand

Featured Replies

In my best @Randy Parker voice: :stop:

My Scandanavian forebears didn’t sail over here and become the first Europeans to set foot on this continent — FOUR HUNDRED YEARS BEFORE THAT AWFUL LITTLE COLUMBUS — for me to neglect my heritage.

Different day, different herrings.

I will pretty much eat anything. You can tell that by looking at me. However, beets are on the will not eat list.

I will also not eat oatmeal as a hot cereal, like most people eat. It's a consistency thing, I think, because I love the smell. I love oatmeal cookies. I love anything else made with oatmeal. For some reason, though, hot oats in a bowl reminds me of vomit when I try to eat it. It comes right back up.

Have you tried steel cut oats? I have an issue with certain textures as well. Steel cut oats are chewey and really tasty too.

In general, I struggle with preparation of foods, not the foods themselves. I can’t abide brains or many organ meats or tongue. Not a fan of raw fish. Hate overcooked veggies. Not a fan of sodas, and diet sodas are really nasty to me. Don’t like sweet tea or coffee.Foods and drinks I avoid at all costs are a very small group.

Tilapia. Strong hint of mud and algae.

You almost had me until that

Brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes and sushi are all disgusting.

I can tolerate brussels sprouts if they're salted, sliced and half and put under the broiler. I've learned to actually like sweet potatoes.

And I LOVE sushi. My previous post notwithstanding, I'll eat and enjoy pretty much anything that comes out of the water.

Goetta is gross.

Not quite gross, but not good. Scrapple is much better.

Cincinnati "chili"; and I use the term loosely. Swill whose sole reason for existing is to cover up a mediocre hot dog. No sense on wasting it on a good one.

Asparagus.

And the one food that I absolutely cannot abide. Hot/stewed tomatoes. You wanna watch me gag, find some and put them anywhere on the table. Or the table next to me.

Can't even swallow an olive....complete gag reflex...but I can eat foods prepared in olive oil. I don't fancy beets either. I like tomatoes, but too much and I get bumps on my tongue.

Twizzler or licorice, seems like I'm eating candle wax...I can't stand them.

Asparagus. (Agree)

(I like the Italian seasoned type)

I know I'm going to get grief for this one......lobster, I don't get the fascination. Tastes like nothing to me.

Sushi, no, I'll take my fish cooked/fried or baked please.

Beef tongue, Ox tail, Turkey neck, Pigs feet, Liver.......I'll never get these. (However I do like me some Braunschweiger)

Turkey burgers and bacon.......my wife still tells me she hasn't given up on making me like these. I keep telling her she's wasting her time.

Man I love the black stuff, real licorice. Loved Good & Plenty's as a kid and Jagermeister as an adult. One of my wife's coworkers used to make me Italian cookies with Anise, loved those as well.

Scrapple??? Ugh.

Grew up on it, thank God my wife introduced me to goetta.

You say to-may-to, I say to-mah-to.:lol2:
