Why do you think his HR and RBI numbers are where they are, 8 and 43? Last year at the All-star break he had 26 HRs and 68 RBIs, after the break he fell to 10 HRs and 32 RBIs. Are HRs down across baseball? Is he just not trying to hit HRs? I have no problem with Votto's overall numbers but I would like to see him be a little more aggressive in certain situations but maybe he takes the same approach regardless.
July 5, 20188 yr They can use a off day today and I'm sure they can really use the All-star break. They are getting used so much they need a collective break. Starters are going to have to go longer than 5 innings or they'll be spent for sure. Since their last off day on June 18th here are the starters innings. 9 of 16 games they haven't gotten to the 6th. Romano 5.0, 5.0, 5.0 7.0 DeSclafani 5.1, 6.1, 6.1 Castillo 6.2, 4.0, 5.2 Harvey 5.2 (rain delay), 6.2, 6.0 Mahle 5.2, 5.0, 6.0 Just looking at this, hasn’t the starters gotten into the 6th in 11 of 16? Or did you mean thru the 6th?

I looked at all the division leaders and most of their starters aren't going much deeper, even the American league teams. Interesting stats: Cincinnati 15g starters innings 86.1 Milwaukee 15g starters innings 85.1 Atlanta 15g starters innings 79.2 Arizona 15g starters innings 84.0 Boston 15g starters innings 82.0 Houston 15g starters innings 92.1 Cleveland 15g starters innings 83.2

I looked at all the division leaders and most of their starters aren't going much deeper, even the American league teams. Reds are 23rd out of 30 MLB teams in IP from starters. (10th out of 15 NL teams) NL average is 465 Reds have 454 IP. 3th most IP out of 15 NL teams for Relivers.

July 5, 20188 yr It's almost like he's getting better. I think some of us were a little quick to toss him aside. He's still only 24. I'd like to see his OBP up a little higher still, but I'm happy with the way he has played this year. I totally agree. His last 30 days his OBP is .375 and for the season .322. Last year it was only .297 but in half a season in 2016 it was .352 with only 7 walks.

When the Reds gave him $25 millon, do you think they wanted a guy that got on base at a high rate or to hit 30 HR and drive in 100 RBI yearly. You are going to defend him no matter what. He should lead off and give about 12 million a year back.
