Stupid, no matter how you shape it.

Ohio State’s Marcus Hooker arrested on DUI, other charges – CollegeFootballTalk

From the Article:

The true freshman OSU defensive back is facing one count each of driving under the influence, purchase of alcohol by a minor, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and having no rear lights as a result of the arrest.

Younger brother of Ohio State star and 1st round draft pick by the Colts, Malik Hooker. I’m not sure what this means for Hooker, but obviously it’s not good. I would imagine an indefinite suspension, but he just arrived on campus so I’m not sure what the precedent is for stuff like this. I think he’ll get another shot with Ohio State, but his leash will be about as short as it can get.

I'm glad they caught him. I can't stand drunk drivers.

Young men tend to think they're invincible and do stupid things. I expect he'll learn his lesson, at least I hope so. I don't think this calls for a severe punishment.

Especially in 2018 when you can get an Uber to take you and your friends anywhere at anytime. Just absolutely no excuse for it.

True.

There are no excuses for driving drunk, especially underage. However, Uber, isn't exactly an option in many small towns, such as the town where Hooks got popped. Not to mention, who knows if he even has a debit card to pay for an Uber through the app. Many 18 year olds do not. It may not be as simple as you think to just get an Uber.

Either way, you've got to be smarter than this. Unfortunately, he's not the first, and he won't be the last to make this type of mistake.

It’s sad that a handful of DUI’s are expected now in college sports.

College kids tend to make a lot of mistakes. And it’s always been that way....it’s not any different now than it was 20, 30 or 50 years ago. The only difference, is now, it becomes news and everyone hears about it.

They are?

To be honest, I assumed he was in Columbus. Probably should have read the whole article instead of skimming it.

Completely agree, that’s why I said unfortunately, this stuff is expected to pop up as it always does.

From 2013 - One-game suspensions for DUI seem common in college football

Thats talking about the punishments being common, not the action. While a college kid getting a DUI would never surprise me, I also don’t think people expect DUI’s to happen as you stated.

As long as he didnt sign anything, he will move down the depth chart and all will move on.
