Not sure South Warren was a top ten in KY. It's interesting that a few weeks prior to their beating Bowling Green they had lost to the Purples by the exact same score as their loss to CCH. I think that keeps them out of the top ten in KY.

I would throw the '09 HHS team with collinsworth in the mix.

Not sure where the huh came from. As i stated it could definitely be argued that Covcath maybe never did play a true top 10 team in the state last year. Putting running clocks on everyone was impressive. However at the end of the day, we never did get to see them against the other true top teams in ky. Ryle even showed with their 1st round loss, that they weren't even a top 10 team in the state. This is the same argument I used when people said Covcath maybe could beat Trinity. Covcath was great and in the conversation for best team in nky history. Unfortunately they didn't get to play any other true top teams in this state in reference to the 10 best teams in the state.

I'm a big fan of calpreps too. However I think it's way off the mark with its ranking here. If BG is 23. No way should SW be 10th. BG beat SW by 40 and lost a close tight game in the playoffs. To me that seems more like BG probably was the better team except for one day. BG by that is to low and SW to high. I think they are both somewhere in the 11 through 20 range last year.

It's not difficult to argue, if you understand that one of, if not the most talented teams of all time was Paducah Tighlman '87/'88 teams. They had All-Americans, All SEC, all everything players. The kid from Trinity that was so good this year (I saw his hudl film, he was great). Paducah Tighlman had 4 of him and a pair of LB's that went to USC and Mich St. Literally, the talent and speed of this team was off the charts.

The argument is the '87/'88 CCH TEAM beat them twice. I'm not saying they are better. I'm saying it is not difficult to make a logical comparison and don't be so fast to say "for sure."

Similar to Highlands, they had some incredibly talented teams that would be interesting to hear comparisons of just which was the best.

I agree those rankings look a little off. My thought is by playing extra games it gets a team more points in their ranking. The end result is the teams that went deeper in the playoffs get a little boost and the teams that didn't drop a little too much. The most accurate rankings probably would be entering round one of the playoffs.

Isn't that more a result of the way the game has changed over the years? Hard to compare teams of different eras for these very reasons.

I will say this, this team had the team speed to match up w/ any CovCath team and the size to match up against any past CovCath team. When you have that much size and TALENT on the outside, it is tough to match that. They had, what, 6 receivers who contributed that were 6'2" or taller? They had McGinnes in the flats in the passing game as well as being part of a nice little thunder and lightning duo in the backfield.

 

All you can do, due to changes in eras, is to compare how the team did against their peers, and this team dominated.
